I want a cupcake tree as my wedding cake with a small cake on top to cut for pictures. How many cupcakes do you have per guest? Are there cupcake trees that hold 200+ or just 100. how do you display them for 250 cupcakes? Do you serve anything else with your cupcakes? how about flags on cupcakes with your monogram? What did you do or what are you doing?

i think i would estimate 2 per guest with a few extra. have you seen cola’s cupcake tower?

I am not using cupcakes but your baker would prob be able to tell you how many you should order. Have you ever seen cupcake wars? they display them in all sorts of fashions! I would think 2 per guest depending on how big they are.. I wouldn’t eat more than one. I LOVE when people put cute accents on cupcakes though! what is your wedding theme? This would be a great way to add in some theme flare

I’m having a small 3 tiered cake and 6-8 dozen cup cakes. When I went to my baker she told me that only 25% of guests eat cake. We are having around 300 guests and also a candy buffet so hopefully this be enough! When she told me only 25% eat cake that seemed really low to me.

I am having a carnival themed wedding and will have other goodies. I want a candy table, cotton candy machine and kettle corn maker. with all those goodies, I’m not sure how many cupcakes to get. 25% sounds really low… any other suggestions?

We had a cupcake tower and had enough for one per person… I wish we would have done less because we had tons of left overs. I would say 75% would be enough!

@tinarenee77: we are doing cupcakes and doing 2 per guest. If there are any left, I will just take them to work or my daughter will get into them. ^_^

I’ve seen other bees say that they planned for 1.5 per guest and had a lot left over. I haven’t heard of any who ran out. Like PP’s have said, not everybody eats or likes cake, but it might depend on how rich your other food is and what other options there are. I’m going to plan on 1 each with maybe a dozen extras (we’re having about 120 people), and hope for the best.
We’re doing cute coordinating cupcake liners from this etsy store
And little gumpaste flowers on each one

I would have to agree with 1.5 per person. Not everyone will eat the sweets & some will want more.
I also think it depends on how its served. If you’re going to have it set-up where guests can grab their own, then they’ll take more. If they are being served dessert then they’ll probably only have one!

You can always replenish the display. I would say 1 per guest would be fine.

I had cupcakes and a small cake topper (for my hubby and I to enjoy on our first anniversary…if it lasts that long). We had 150 cupcakes and 140 guests. We still had plenty left over afterwards. Mind you, we also had a candy table so a lot of people filled themselves up on that before it was cupcake time.
Maybe I’m naive, but I’m going to assume that people will have manners at your wedding and wouldn’t expect 2 slices of cake so I’m not sure why you’d have to plan for 2 cupcakes per person. Just my thoughts though…

The baker I’m using told me 1.3 normal sized cupcakes per person is more than enough even if they are the main (or only) dessert. I’ve heard from a lot of friends that they had leftovers, so it’s probably safe to do a little less than that. Hope that helps!

Thanks for all the input ladies, very helpful.

@tinarenee77: thanks for this post I was wondering the same!

@ME Team: I agree with cupcakes for 75% of your guests. That’s what more than a few bakers have told me. We’ll have 350-400 guests and getting 250 cupcakes. I’ll also have a cake tier for cutting and a groom’s cake but it won’t serve more than 50 slices.
