We considered cupcakes for months before deciding on cake and I wondered this as well- which may be part of the reason I switched because I stressed over it. Some people will eat two, while others will eat none. Some may take 3! Maybe just enough for everyone?

We had 133 guests, 180 cupcakes and about 2 dozen leftover…

Our cupcake vendor is telling us to average 1.5 per person – especially if you have multiple flavors!

I ordered 120 cupcakes, about 80 people showed up (95 rsvp’d yes, that is a whole other post) and we had about 4 dozen left. Not many people ate our cupcakes. =(

We are having mini cupcakes for our grooms cake-chocolate cake with chocolate icing-the gal who is making them, said to count on 2 per person bc they are bite sized. That combined with the bride’s cake, as well as a gag groom’s cake will be plenty of cake!

At least 2 per person. Some people will have more and others won’t touch any. If you only have one person, you risk some people not getting any because there aren’t any left. You can always take home leftovers (which should not be dried out) or give them away, whether to your guests who are still there at the end of the night or by dropping them off at work for your coworkers before you head out on your honeymoon, and they won’t go to waste.

I think if you calculate your [(expected # of guests) x 1.5]… you should be fine.  🙂

Ok, here is what we thought before we got married.  2per person.  But instead we ordered 144 for 140 people.  We had 20 left over.  To be safe you should order 1 per person; but not more.  We ended up freezing the left overs and we served them throughout the month when people came over.   I took some to work, they were very happy.  They froze nicely.

I think it also has to do w/the flavor.  The less traditional the color frosting, the more left overs you will have.  I would stick w/chocolate and vanilla frosting even if you want a sky blue wedding.  People, I think, shy away from food additives and coloring.  Stay away from nuts.

Ask several bakers which flavor cupcake and frosting is the best seller and go from there.

My only advice is that if you are getting multiple flavors, if I were at your wedding I would take 2.  Maybe do 1.5 per person since some wont eat them, some will eat too many and some will only eat 1 🙂

Am I the only one that would eat more than one or two cupcakes? If that is the only dessert, I would totally have more than one, if allowed, unless they are those bigger ones that you get from the bakery or something.
