We didn’t do engagement photos at all however my sister-in-law had four different outfits and they were all casual photos that complimented her and her now ex-husband but their pictures were awesome

When it comes do deciding this, how does this work with your photographer? Are they usually okay with outfit changes? Do you block off a longer shoot or book separate slots?

msbeee:  this actually might be something to discuss with your photographer too. Outfit changes mean more time, which is part of the price of the package, their time for the shoot. If they’re not allowing time for the wardrobe changes, they may charge you more.

Our engagement session was 2 hours and we discussed to locales, more grassy then by the beach. We did dressier with knee length dress for me and a sweater/dress shirt with dark pants for him. Then for the beach I did jeans and a flowy top and him in a more casual button down and lighter khakis.

We only had an hour long session, so we just did one casual outfit.  DH wore jeans and a blue plaid shirt, I wore jeans, a black tank top and a grey light cardigan.

My Fiance and I wore two outfits. He wore 2 different shirts and 1 suit, and I wire two different dresses. My first dress was a casual summer dress and the second was a formal gown. I also changed my lipstick. We had a 2hr photo shoot outside. I would suggest no more than 2 oufit changes because you have to think about where you get changed? how close is the changing place is to all the places you want to take Pictures? how easly or difficult, it is to change into the clothes?

Our engagement photos are on the 11th! We’re doing two outfits. Dressy for an urban city background & then a little more casual outfit for the park.

I did two, but honestly only one was needed, I realized the moment I got the photos back.  No one cares.

We did two. We had our pictures taken on the golf course so we wore our golf clothes and had our clubs and took some cute pictures. Then we changed into more dressy clothes. I wore a bright dress and wedges and he wore khakis and a button down and we took our more serious pictures.

Neither of my daughters had professional engagement photos take. One had an aunt take casual photos and another a friend. All they needed was one shot, to use for their save the dates. Both couples wore casual clothes. They knew that once they got their weding photos, the folowing year, they’d be on the walls and furniture, instead of the engagement photos. A few yeaars later and there are baby photos, in their home, and not a lot of wedding photos on display. When the 2nd baby arrive, I’m guessing there will be no wedding photos left on display.

It really depends on the session length but I usually suggest for my clients they stick with 1-2 outfits. My biggest suggestions is always for the ladies, and that’s if you plan to wear a dress/skirt, also bring a pants outfit. Dresses can be pretty limiting when it comes to posing depending on the weather (wind) and dress length.
