I have finally called and made an appointment to go dress shopping eeek! I’m going two days after my final exams end. There is only one store anywhere near me that carries the designers I want to try dresses from and it is 4 hours away from my parents’ house (which is 1.5 hours away from me).
Unfortunately, I’m having foot surgery two days after my appointment. Right around the time I’ll be able to walk again, I’m leaving the state for a month, and right when I return I’ll be going back to school, where it’s hard for me to find time come home and go dress shopping. Am I totally crazy to hope I’ll find my dress in just the one shopping trip? I have a fairly clear vision of the kind of dress I want… I’m really really really hoping I’ll get lucky and find my dress right away and not have to worry about coordinating mine/my parents’ schedules during my school year to come home then travel four hours to that store… Am I crazy??
How many trips did it take you until you found your dress? Anybody get lucky their very first time?

I found mine on the first day, as did my 2 best friends. But since you are on a time crunch, I suggest going to stores near you ahead of time, even if they don’t have the particular designers that you are interested. You can at least try on the different silhouettes, figure out what level of sparkle you feel confortable with, what type of details you do or do not like, etc. Consider it doing your research so that on the big day you are not wasting time trying on dresses that are clearly not going to work for you.

I found my dress at the 3rd store I went to, and it was the 7th dress I tried on. Like you, I also had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted in my wedding dress. I tried what I wanted-didn’t like it at all! Then tv hanged the style completely and ended up with a lace a-line dress (originally wanted a satin ball gown). Even if you are pretty set on a specific style you really like, I would still recommend trying on different styles. Afterall, it’s wedding dress shopping! So romantic and sentimental!:)

I had 6 appointments and tried on 75-100 gowns. It was a nightmare. I’m glad it’s over with, though I was expecting that I would still be looking.

I found and purchased my dress on my first shopping trip. It was at the third and final store of the day. I wasn’t expecting to find it on the first trip but I loved it and it was just what I wanted.
Good luck shopping! Hope the foot surgery goes well.

Also to reiterate what PP has said – visit other stores as well! I tried on designers I hadn’t originally planned. I tried on what I thought I wanted and was never wowed. It finally took two bridal consultants (and 2 different appointments) to take me out of my “comfort zone” before I decided on a dress. I ended up with something totally different than what I thought I wanted (I decided on a fit and flare with a full bottom/ruffles.. I originally wanted a simple A-line) from somewhere I never would have dreamed (I’m a White by Vera Wang bride.. I was so anti-DB until my mother forced me into the store).
Keep an open mind.. 😉

That’s a good idea! Try them on for fit and style before my appointment. I just hope I can find time to do that haha… finals are coming up bleh!

I found it on the first trip. It was the last dress I tried on.

My dress was the last dress I tried at the first store I went to (a close second was the first dress I tried on at the first store).
I then went to 3 other stores, but was comparing every dress I tried on to the last dress from the first store.
I figured using a dress as a measuring bar (and it was consistently number 1) was a pretty good sign that I had found rhe right deess. Plus, mum cried and I felt amazing in it.
I was fairly sure I’d find it within the first trip dress shopping.

One trip, first dress I tried on.
I planned the whole day out with my mom, to visit about five stores that carried a couple designers I liked.
I had my dream dress in mind, but the sales girl picked out one she thought I would like better and it was perfect. I tried on about 10 more dresses, in all sorts of styles, just to make sure… and I was. Sometimes it all works out quickly. (:

I found mine on my second trip. I literally saw it and knew right away. I tried it on and knew that no other dresses would compare. Did i try on other dresses? Yup! But when you get a gut feeling you roll with it. Good luck!

I found it in the first day, second dress I tried on. Though the second day I went to two other places and tried on about 10-15 more gowns before going back to the first place I went to the first day and tried it back on. There was no doubt in my mind it was the one.
