I think about 10, then I put her on and loved her! I then tried on about 5 more before I went back and knew for sure.

First dress.   But I had loved and admired my dress, since it came out and I was sure it was the one.  I tried on two others and my mom and sil agreed, first dress was it for me.

I tried on 25-30 dresses, and I was definitely ready to be done shopping at that point!

@BeeG35:  Why don’t you take a break from dress shopping until you’ve booked your venue?

I feel like I am the odd man out. I tried on 4 and the second one was the dress. try taking a breath for a bit. walk away and start fresh. Have you went through magazines and actually found the styles you like. sometimes trying to describe or explain what you like isnt always the easiest. Take some pics into your appointments and say I like this veil, and this cut, this color etc. Also, if you find a dress you like say online, ask the salon if they have that exact dress or something like it. I am sure you have probably done all of this but just in case you havent it helps to sometimes have a new approach. Keep trying and relax and enjoy the shopping experience.

I tried on 5. The 5th was at the suggestion of the bridal shop owner and it was a perfect match.  I spent a total of one hour in the shop.

I think what really helped was that prior to that appointment, I’d spent a month looking at dresses online, and in mags, so by the time I went in there, I knew what designer I wanted, I knew what general fabric type I wanted and what features I wanted on the dress. So, if you can narrow it down to that then you won’t feel so lost when you go in there.

Also, my dress choice was appropriate for the kind of wedding I’m having…a beach wedding, so based on what kind of wedding you’re having and location/season will help you quite a bit.

I can only give you an approximate number of 15, I tried one on in one store (went to that store to solely try on a dress I found online), spent an afternoon at another trying on a bunch of dresses, and an evening at DB trying on dresses.

I think it’s different for everyone, sometimes it just takes a long time searching to find what you are looking for. Other times, its simply that you need to give a style a chance. I made a point to try on at least 1 mermaid dress, before officially ruling that style out, I hate mermaid dresses, they just look so awkward. Thankfully, I didn’t love the mermaid style on me, it didn’t look bad, but compared to A-line or ballgowns it wasn’t the best style for me and it was awkward to move in.

Read the book The Paradox of Choice. It doesn’t talk about wedding dresses per se, but it does talk about exactly that problem, of settling on one choice that you will be happy with when there are endless options and always more out there.

14.

6 at the first store, each one in a completely different style and shape. 6 at the second store, also completely different than the other dresses.

Then I found an online sale and purchased 2 dresses online, and I will keep the one that is most flattering. I pick them up in 2 hours!!

I believe I only tried on five dresses before finding the one. I was kind of shocked it didn’t take very long for me since I’m usually quite indecisive! Good luck! I’m sure you’ll find what you’re searching for eventually.

About 10 and it was actually the 1st dress I tried on. Everytime I tried on a dress I just kept thinking about the 1st dress. That’s how I knew it was the one!
