Pretty sure I’m going to end up eloping.

No date set, but thinking we might go to New York City (we LOVE NYC) or possibly Paris. I will definitely wear a wedding dress. Nothing with a train, or too extravagant, but a wedding dress indeed. I will likely only tell my sister and mom. Maybe my dad? I think if we tell FI’s parents they’ll hijack it. Lol.

I will send out a formal announcement after the day with a photo to extended families and close friends.

We will also convalidate the marriage in the Catholic Church which we will have our families present for.

What about you, OP?

Encore Bride (and Groom) here. And we are both over 50 years old with adult children.  An Elopement to a Destination Wedding works for us.  Just the two of us on the Beach overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.  A lot less fuss & muss than our previous weddings (they were the BIG White Pouffy Weddings.. all very formal)

This time round…

Just the two of us (no witnesses required) holding hands and gazing into each others eyes, as we say our vows to one another before our Officiant.  Sooo LOVE thinking about that part.

We want to marry Christmas Eve in Myrtle Beach, and have nailed down a location / outdoor venue.  But we are having a bit of trouble finding an Officiant… was hoping for one that offered an alternative location incase the weather didn’t cooperate (local Wedding Chapel).  Sadly not having much luck with that aspect… so are brainstorming other “creative” alternatives as I am none to keen on getting married in our condo’s living room (too plain jane)

Hubby-2-B is thrilled that he can get married in his flip-flops / sandals.  And not get all dressed up this time round.  Pretty much decided he’ll wear Dockers and a nice casual shirt (Hawaiian or one that has that styling but just in solid white)

I originally thought I’d go the “safe route” for my age, and wear a flowy gown in a sort of Mother-of-the-Bride styling… in champagne, beige, tan or gold.

Lol, after having spent months here on WBee, I’m beginning to find “the Bride” in me… and am now thinking something a bit more bridal than MOB.  And have recently discovered that the off-shore Bridal Houses in China can tailor me up a custom fit Wedding Dress for a fraction of the price I can buy one here in Canada (or the USA) with the BONUS that I can choose to have it made in any colour I so desire.

This is very very tempting !!

As far as friends & family… everyone is very excited for us.  Hubby-2-B and I have been together for aprox 7 years… and have been living common law (very very common in Canada… and virtually the same as being married).  So lots of folks are surprised and overjoyed that we’ve decided to go the more traditional route and get married… when we really don’t have to (good tho when you are our ages and travel alot… as not all countries recognize Common Law Marriages as legal, or that one has rights in their countries… including the USA when it comes to health issues etc… so a BIG motivator for us in that regard as we are semi-retired, and spend a lot of time South of the Border)

Our friends & family keep asking us if they can come along to our Wedding… and we’ve said NO.  We really want to do this on our own… no hassles.  So, NO family to feel we are obligated to entertain etc.

Because response has been so overwhelming… we have tho decided that we need to do something when we get back home to celebrate with others.  Originally we thought an Open House… but it took me about 5 minutes to realise we have about 100 friends who want to celebrate with us.  So now the thought is to rent a hall.  In the very least we’ll do Cake & Champagne.  At the other extreme, we’ll do that PLUS have Cocktails & Nibbles and hire a DJ (lots of friends say it should be a full on party with dancing… lol, we all love dancing).  If we go that route, we’ll no doubt have a Cash Bar (extremely common here in Canada, where alcohol can be very expensive).

The interesting thing is, with an Elopement, I am finding that I am FREE to do as much or as little as I wish.  Something that I didn’t feel the first time round.  There truly are NO RULES.

Seriously considering doing some niceties for the Reception… pretty themed invites, general decorating, Cake Table, Guest Book Table, Card Box / Birdcage… etc.  Finding inspiration certainly here on WBee.

Who knew that getting married a second time could be as much fun (or more) than the first !!

What’s your elopement date (if set)?  AUGUST 3!!

Where’s your elopement destination? Deep Creek Lake Maryland

What do you plan on wearing? a lace ivory dress or a sun dress

How will you announce it to family/friends?  Were not, we are pretending like it never happened and having our 25 person “destination Wedding” a month later.  Our family is being a bit awful and we dont want to risk our day being ruined.  Then a month after that in Oct. a big reception where we live where everyone can come.

@This Time Round:  For a location – what about looking at VBRO.com or HomeAway.com for a vacation home that has a lovely deck or garden?  Have the ceremony there?

We are considering having a tiny wedding or eloping.

We’ll probably elope in the city we live in… or in the beautiful rocky mountains (a not too distant drive from where we live). I am planning on wearing a simple white or cream dress and then going for dinner after. Nothing too extravagant.

If we invited guests, we’d just have my mom & sis, and maybe a couple friends, and do pretty much the same thing. If we had guests, it would most likely be in the city we live in vs. the mountains, though.

As far as telling people goes, if we eloped we’d either call or email people who we care about, and the rest can find out on Facebook eventually lol. You can tell the wedding isn’t such a big deal to us, right?

@sienna76:  We have things all figured out if the weather is good… and a “sentimental” spot for the two of us to say our vows overlooking the Ocean.

Thing is if the weather is rainy or frickin freezin (it is December afterall… and I’ve seen Snow in MB before)

In that case an Outdoor Wedding is not going to hack it (neither would a Garden setting of a Deck for that matter)

We need an “inside” alternative that isn’t as plain jane as the Living Room in our Condo.

Thinking now that maybe I can talk our Condo Building into letting us use another indoor space… BUT IDEALLY I want something “pretty”… because that is what the Beach would have been if the weather had worked out.

One of the Bigger Hotel Ballrooms or Lobbies would no doubt fit the bill… but they typically charge a fortune to use such a space for a Wedding (or even Photographs)

Considering this is a BACK UP PLAN and may not be used at all… we don’t want to pay a huge rental fee for something we may never use at all.

Can you tell I’m still brainstorming ideas…
