Since our reception is outside, we’re going to offer flip flops so guests can take of their shoes and dance all night 🙂
I think we’re just going to arrange them in baskets close to the dance floor.
So the question is…how many would you get? We’re expecting 400 people. I assume the majority of takers will be women…but buying 200 pairs seems a little extreme to me! I definitely don’t want to run out, but at the same time I don’t want to be left with a lot at the end of the night either.
What would you do?

I think that if you go this route, you need to make sure you have enough flip-flops for everyone (at least all the females with a few extras for the males who want to join in). If you have left overs, your guests might want to take them home or you could donate them to charity.

I am also doing flip flops, I’ve seen that you should plan for 25% of your guests to use them, but I think it all depends on “your crowd”. You know your guests the best….are they the kind who will kick off their shoes and dance the night away? Or will they want to be more proper and keep their own shoes on? I am going a little higher then 25% b/c our families are the crazy/dancing/fun kind and I suspect they’ll kick off their shoes for the flip flops…..

We are inviting 140 guests and I purchased 25 pairs of flip flops. I know that seems a bit low but based on my particular guests and their “dancing habits” I think that would be sufficient.

Thank you for posting – I had this question, too. Also, where are you all getting your flip flops? Thanks!!

Thanks for all the input ladies! I guess I was thinking 125-150, which is just over 25%, so that makes sense!
I’ve heard of a lot of ladies getting them from Old Navy, but they’re $2.50 a pair, and I didn’t want to spend that much. I know they have a $1 sale, but at least where I’m from you’re only allowed to buy 5.
So I’m still in the searching stages. I found some on ebay (search wholesale flip flops) where you can message a seller and they can provide you with whatever size and color you want, even if that specific quantity isn’t listed. They were just over a dollar a pair. There are also decent prices on dollardays.com, but I wasn’t thrilled abou the patterns on those.
I’ll post if I find any good deals!

I bought mine at Michaels and Target. But I bought them at the end of last summer season so I got them at huge discounts. I think the ones from Michaels were like .35 cents a piece, I believe they were 70% off!!!!

Thanks for the lead to dollardays.com — I thought these might be OK for my wedding http://dollardays.com/i925784-wholesale-marc-gold-ladies-flip-flop-6-new-for-2012.html. And last year a friend had these from Dollar Tree at hers: http://www.dollartree.com/ladies-flip-flops/p294374/index.pro. My wedding’s not until Sept so I suppose I could wait for the end of summer sales but I fear I’ll be too busy by then. If anyone ends up having extras from their spring/summer wedding and wants to sell them, let me know – I’d be happy to buy them from you!
@sn2bmrsmntgmry: I wish I had thought ahead and checked out Michaels – good job – that’s a great deal!

I had 135 guests and purchased 25 pairs of flip flops. There were still 5-10 pairs left at the end of the night. Only younger women will use them, men and older women (especially women wearing stockings) would never consider changing into flip flops at a wedding.
