Our contract starts at 2 pm for setup but our actual DJ needs begin at 4 for the cocktail hour. We also added an additional hour that he gave to us at no cost so our day ends at 9 pm.

Our ceremony is at 3:30 so we have him starting music at 3:00 and the reception will be over at 9 so we have him booked for 6 hours

LadyPeacockk:  5 hours, our entire reception was 5 hours (1 hour cocktail, 4 hours for dance and dinner)

I voted 7+. Our ceremony is at 3:30, cocktail hour starts at 4 PM, and dinner at 5; reception ends at 10:30. So, DJ is starting at 3:00 PM and will play til 10:30.

If we would’ve gotten married offsite, we probably wouldn’t have hired him for as many hours since we would’ve likely had ceremony musicians.

Hmm, interesting thread.  I have a four hour time slot for the reception.  We will probably have an hour long cocktail hour beforehand.  Sounds like other bees hired the dj for this as well.  I need to think on this one b/c I planned to have my dj booked for the 4 hour reception only.

Our ceremony was at 4:30, and the reception 5:00-11:00 so we had him for 7 hrs

I voted for 4 hours. Ours played the dance portion from 8-12  (although they actuay started before 8.) They also were there by 6 to announce the bridal party and to allow us to use the mic for speeches and what not. The best part was that they didn’t charge us any more for coming in early when they were already the cheapest dj we found. They did get a larger tip for it though.

Edit: They also played during the dinner since they were there, again free of charge!

Just finalising 11:30am – 9pm agreement with our band who’ll also do DJ’ing. It will be one looong day for them!

Our DJ arrived at the venue around noon to setup his lights and table. Our 3:30pm ceremony was moved indoors the day before due to weather and he offered to help make the backup indoor site “pretty” : ) It was!

Cocktail hour was from 4 until 5:30, dinner was at 6 and dance started around 7 or so. We shut the reception down just before 10pm but he was willing to stay as late as 2am! We did not have a time limit, his was a flat fee for the entire day, including ceremony music. He was absolutely -amazing-. If anyone in the southern Wisconsin area needs a DJ, I highly recommend “Your Mix Entertainment”!

5 hours of playing music. 1 hour for cocktails, 4 hours for reception. This does not include setup and breakdown.
