@BreezyBride24:  We had a destination wedding, so the “officail” part of the wedding (the DJ and everything) ended at 11:00, but since everyone was staying at the same hotel, we all went up to the bar afterwards.

I said 6, since my ceremony starts at 10 am and I’m thinking reception should be done by 4 or so

My ceremony is at 4pm and the cocktail hour is at 6pm, the reception part is from 7-11pm….we are also going to be planning an after party because most of our guests will be out of towners and we would like to party past 11pm LOL most reception places are usually anywhere from 4-6 hours including cocktail hour. All the money we spend you would think you can have the reception hall for 8 hours!!!

Our official wedding is 5 hours (6pm-11pm) but I wish it was longer. 5 hours seems so short to fit all that stuff in! We’re having an unofficial after-party for anyone who wants to keep it going.

Ours lasted for 10 hours… ceremony 1315-1415, then food, lawn games, buffet, and dancing. We had last orders at around 2300, and were all out by 2330.

I was worried that it wouldn’t be long enough, as I’ve been to plenty of weddings that go on until 2am or so, but it was so hot and there was so much drink that people were starting to head off by 11pm anyway, so it was OK.

@BreezyBride24:  I agree!  5 hours sounds perfect to me, and anything in the 4-6 hour range also makes sense to me.  Attending a 7 + hour wedding sounds way too long to me.  Our ceremony is at 4:30 with cocktails and the reception immediately following.  We plan to be done no later than 9:30.  If people want to go out after that, they can do that at their own discretion.

Ceremony 6:00 pm and last call 11 pm. That doesn’t include the “after party” in a local hotel room that lasted until 1 am. I was exhausted!

@BreezyBride24:  It was the gardens that did it. We had gardens with croquet, giant chess, and giant jenga, and people were just happy to wander around the gardens, drink, play games and chat. We only really started dancing once it started getting dark and the bugs came out… it must have been getting on for half nine at night by that stage.

To be honest, I think people were just happy to socialise and enjoy the weather. I designed the day so that older relatives wouldn’t be put off by loud music and things.

Our ceremony is at 4:00, we’ll be having an hour and a half cocktail/entertainment hour, and then our reception starts at 6:30 and goes till 11:30. At least that’s how it’s going in my head so far, we’ll see how that really turns out lol.

And we’ll probably have an after party as well, because some of my guests are coming from a long ways away and I want to party with them! Same reason we’ll be having an open night before dinner and a brunch/BBQ the next day.

The US definitely has different timings compared to most other cultures. Your weddings seem so short. In my culture, weddings start between 1-3 p.m. and continue on till the DJ finishes around 3-4 a.m. the next day. Many people then go to the residents bar till 6 a.m. 🙂

There would be a riot if the wedding ended after 5 hours here. 🙂

@BreezyBride24:  I don’t know if we will have any sort of special exit.  We aren’t allowed to have any sort of fireworks or sprinklers at our venue, so that rules out the things I like.  Plus, we’re kinda hoping on the same shuttle as our guests, sooo, I don’t know.  Haven’t planned out that detail yet.

I voted 5 hrs. My ceremony starts at 6 pm and we will host the event til 11 pm. We have to be out of the venue by 12 am (rented a loft).
