I had 4 – my 2 sisters (one of whom was only 13 at the time), 1 of my SILs and my best friend. They were all very easy going but I definitely wouldn’t have wanted anymore than that.

My 4 sisters are my bridesmaids and I couldn’t imagine having more than that.

I had 4. My sister and best friend of 17 years were Co-MOH’s, I had a lifelong friend as a bridesmaid, and another friend I’ve known for a long ass time as well. My Future Sister-In-Law at the time kept hinting she wanted to ve a Bridesmaid or Best Man but that fell on deaf ears 😛

I have 6. I went to college with a few girls that had 9-12 bridesmaids and it’s funny because they had less drama then people I see in forums like this that only had a few. They all went to the bachlorette party, the shower, and bought the dress on time. I just imagine it was slightly challenging planning a day that they’ll all be free.

I like having 6, it’s easy for me to keep in touch with everyone, and the night before the wedding I’m booking a hotel room at my venue for us to stay in so that it’s easy in the morning with hair and makeup. The hotel has a room big enough for us but if I had more bridesmaids I’d have to get a second room which would cost me more (I’m paying for the room).

Overall I think 9 is fine as long as your truly are close with them and they have a track record of being reliable

I had 7 and it was awesome! I was so thankful to have such a sizeable group, especially when it was days before the wedding. Also, it was so fun getting ready in the morning! And being with them prior to the ceremony. And the photos were great (there were also 7 groomsmen). And my hairdresser went MIA literally the day of the wedding and that crisis was averted because one of my BM’s did my hair according to my hair trial.

All of my BM’s were Out of Town except 1 so we didn’t do a lot of pre-wedding events. I didn’t do a bridal shower. We did the bachelorette party the night before the wedding. I let them pick their own dress so there was no need to go shopping all together as a group. They all wore long, lavender dresses with different silhouettes and it looked so great the day of the wedding! I got my dress custom made and I didn’t need everybody coming to my appointments. Just my mom, Maid/Matron of Honor, and 1 or 2 bridesmaids.

It is more expensive to have a large bridal party when you take into account the rehearsal dinner, Bridesmaid or Best Man gifts, and bouquets if you’re doing them. But we found an affordable restaurant, got affordable gifts, and we DIY’d all the florals so each Bridesmaid or Best Man bouquet was maybe $5 tops even though they each had 13 roses and baby’s breath.

Yes plese listen to your mom! I had 10 bridesmaids and 4 junior bridesmaids. I was insane. lol. I loved them all and I was able to include “everyone”. But things add up. For example I purchased the robes we wore the day of the wedding on sale for $24 each with names engraved. But $24 multiplied by 10 girls. I also had to hire 2 makeup artsit the day of to ensure eveyone was ready on time. The more girls the more money spent. Granted I still had a blast and I love all of them. But i didn’t think of the additional cost before I asked them.

I’m having 2.  My best friend I’ve known since I was 17, and a best friend I’ve had for 10 years.  These are the 2 girls I’m closest to.

bellisima :  You ask as many people as you personally want. This is such a subjective question. What is a lot to one, is not a lot to another. I had eight bridesmaids. These were my nearest and dearest and I truly could not have cut a single one out. I almost had nine, but at the last minute decided not to ask her because we had grown apart.

Is your mother paying? I’m not sure why she even has a say in how many girls you’d pick? Keep that information to yourself and move on.
