i told them all within a week of us getting engaged. they are all buying their own dresses (non-matching) so i probably won’t start hounding them about it until 3-4 months before the wedding. in weddings i’ve been in with matching Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, i think we ordered them about 6 months out? it took forever for the ones we ordered from macys to come in. we ordered in october for an april wedding and i think i got it at the end of february….and they did a terrible measuring job so we all needed a ton of tailoring. i’d say earlier is better than later, just to be safe.

I told them when we got engaged (which was 18 months in advance) now we’re 6 1/2 months away and they still haven’t gotten dresses. I think once the new year hits I’ll be on them to purchase! (they are looking already and have a few in mind..)

I told 6/7 of them within a month of being engaged. The 7th I didnt ask until about 5 months before our wedding! They bought their dresses 4 months before our wedding and the dresses got shipped to us about 7 weeks before our wedding

I told thim within 1 month of being engaged, 13 months before the wedding. I told them when we picked a date. This served 2 main purposes: 1) as a group of friends, we have quite a few weddings in the next 1-2 years so I wanted to get on their calendars and 2) I knew I would be going to them for wedding related advice and opinions so I wanted them to know that their thoughts mattered (such as wedding colors, it is different if you know you will be wearing the color than just seeing it).

I told my bridal party within a week or so of being engaged.  They bought their dresses in August because we got them at J Crew and we wanted to make sure we could order the “summer” colors/fabrics.

I told them within a week of being engaged, which was 17 months out from the wedding! I was just too excited to wait any longer, since I already knew who I wanted. They are ordering their dresses through the same bridal boutique where I ordered my wedding dress, and the owner actually told me they should order them around 6 months from the wedding, and definitely no later than 4 months out. If you decide where you are ordering the dresses from, I would just ask the shop what their recommended timeline is, since they will have a better idea of how long it takes for their merchandise, specifically, to come in, and how long their alterations usually take.

I asked about a year before. I knew I wouldn’t have a problem with them, they’re my family, so I didn’t feel like I needed to wait. We bought their dresses pretty early b/c one was going to be traveling a lot and was Out of Town, so I took advantage of a trip that we all visited her to go dresss shopping.
