majorairhead: Oh, I understand. Well, it would be nice indeed 🙂

Here is my ring. It’s a 1910 piece and it’s really different from the normal engagement rings. From a distance it looks like a butterfly, but here is a close up i have on my cell phone.

majorairhead:  Thank you so much!! I love it too 🙂 Yes, the diamonds are rose cut. A little worn out, but i don’t want to upgrade because i think they give the ring character. Thank you for the lovely words. Hugs!

    I don’t know and I don’t want to. I know it wasn’t very much and that’s okay.

First ring – a few seconds.  But, it fits us.  It’s a gum wrapper.  I seriously love it.

“Adult” ring – about a day or so, but the stone is family so there wasn’t that cost.  I was trying to talk him into less. But my ring was my absolute favorite and exactly what I dreamed, so he said that was it and the penny is already bleeding, so would I stop pinching it. Yes, a day does feel a bit high, it’s a lot of money for me to consider spending at any point.  If we had to include stone, probably up to 3 weeks for an ok stone, 4 months for equal quality, and no way in hell would that happen, I’d be wearing the traditional plain band instead.

De Beers can jump off a cliff in my world.  I’m not wearing a diamond ever as they’re artificially inflated in price on my I am a cheap tight wad side. More seriously, I abhor the diamond industry ethics. Blood diamonds are despicable on that alone. But it’s viciously misogynistic also. Girls are taught their value to a spouse is dependent on size of diamond, which is furthered by various cultures only encouraging women to wear engagement rings as a visible sign of being claimed like property. My fiance wears an engagement ring also, he gets so much smack for that.

Funny, this post made me realize I do not even know how much he spent. And I do not care.

Mslannister:  Exactly and I totally understand. I wouldn’t want this $10,000 thing on my finger I’d be petrified to lose i, damage it, or have it stolen from me. I will be happy with whatever it is though I am sure I will not know the price for sure. But my ring choice is unique so I’m sure it won’t be too crazy.

My husband was entry level at the time, so it took a few more months of salary to pay for the ring than it would have now.  It came to about 3.5 months, although he did give the jeweler a 3 month budget.

Fiance spent 3 month’s salary but its just a coincidence lol. He didn’t even know about that “rule”, but I just did the math and its pretty much exactly 3 months.

There is no truth to the three month rule – its what you can comfortably afford without going in debt (and still paying all your bills). My fiancé saved for 2 years.

I don’t buy into that crap. a guy should be buying a ring he can afford, period. having not seen the receipt , I can only assume, but I’m pretty sure my boyfriend spent a bit over what he makes in a week. we have a mortgage, ain’t nobody got time for a $10k ring in this house.
