@FutureMrsJohnston:  We didn’t do this, but I’ve been to quite a few weddings with unity candles.

We are not. I’ve only seen it done once. I guess it was nice, but it doesn’t have any kind of deep meaning for us.

We will be doing it, it is the one thing Future Mother-In-Law asked us to do.We also won’t be extinguishing our individual candles after lighting the university candle.

We didn’t do it. I don’t really get the point of having a ceremony in a wedding ceremony. I would only do it if it has a personal connection to the couple.

Nope. I’m not a fan of these along with sand ceremonies.

We did one.  We ordered a unity candle with both of our names and last name on it and the wedding date.  There was also a short writing on it.  The taper candles had each of our names on our respective candle.  It is now sitting on our fireplace and we’ll probably light it each anniversary.  I love the symbolism of it.

We didn’t do a unity candle ceremony. We did a unity cross ceremony (it has religious meaning for us and is a beautiful keepsake for our home – very well-made). The only thing is this ceremony does not include the parents (but Father-In-Law was our officiant so that made it even more special). Smile

We did a unity tree.  We planted an evergreen tree.  Our mothers brought bags of dirt to the alter at the beginning of the ceremony and we used those to plant the tree in a pot.  It turned out amazing!

We’re doing it. Our moms will light the two candles then we will take those and light the unity candle.

@FutureMrsJohnston:  we’re doing sand. Fiance can be very ummm… literal person. he went on and on about how the candle gets snuffed out at the end of the ceremony and he didn’t like the symbolization of snuffing out the unity and the bond. lol

we’re doing the unity sand frame thingy. this…

We didn’t.  To me, it is supposed to be a family thing, with the moms lighting the family candles.  Mother-In-Law did not want to be up in front of people.  We could have had someone else do it, but decided to not bother.  It’s not a regret, but if I did a do-over I would have suggested my Maid/Matron of Honor (my sister) and Bridesmaid or Best Man (BIL) and gotten DH’s and their thoughts on the idea.
