Our budget is coming down to the wire and I’m afraid of not being able to afford getting my make up and hair done. I talked to a fellow friend who just got married and she said she did her own makeup and that I should do my own. What I’m afraid of is being so flustered and nervous that I won’t have a steady hand. I also would rather have a professional make it bulletproof from smearing, lipstick bleeding, eye creasing, etc. Attached are photos of pretty much my day to day makeup and I would have no clue how to make it bridal.
If you did your own make up, had you wished you hired a professional or was it a decision you’re glad you made? Thanks so much, lovely bees!

To be honest, it never entered my mind to pay someone to do my makeup! #1, the way I wear my makeup is “me”, and I wanted to look like “me” on my wedding day… not someone else’s vision and not a trendy look. #2… paying someone to do your makeup is, IMO, just another invented “must have” by the wedding industry juggernaut.
You are so beautiful, and the ONLY “bridal” makeup is the wonderful natural glow you will have because you are marrying your love.
And that’s free.

I have contemplated doing my own makeup only because i have had a few trials and not one of them understood my facial features and my partner kept telling me ‘I do my makeup better myself’.
Just research which foundation you should use in photos i.,e dont get a reflective sunscreen one.
I think you look beautiful if you did your makeup like that on the wedding day!

i am on the fence i saw a thread before of ladies who did do their own makeup and they looked flawless as do you in the photos above. I want to but then again my sister hired a makeup artists for her wedding (i was the MOH) and I hated it !! but her makeup was flawless! same girl same products. i just did not like it! thankfully i brought my own stash and added my own lashes my wing liner and a little bronzer. Im also on the fence because my MUA is charging for the trial and the actual day of so i dont know but if you did this look you would look amazing!

I’m going to do my own! 😀 I didn’t see the point in paying someone a few hundred dollars when I could just do it myself.

If you do your makeup regularly and know how to do what you want, then I suggest doing it yourself. If you are like me and have a “five minute face” daily but are not a make up pro, I HIGHLY recommend having someone else do it. The thing with doing it yourself too is if you don’t have the high quality products you need, you will need to go out and buy them, where a make up artist would already have all that for you. It may not be as cheap as you think it will be…unless of course you already own what you would use. I had an inspiration picture for my make up artist and I told her the look I was going for and she did a very good job with that.

I did my own makeup! I was happy I did it myself but then again I am kind of a makeup “junkie” — so I have had lots of time to try lots of products, practice different looks, and collect good makeup, brushes, etc. I did a trial with a professional and liked it, but ultimately decided I could do it just as well. Plus, I decided I would rather spend the morning with my family and girlfriends drinking mimosas at my mom’s house, rather than running around to appointments. We had a fun morning all sitting around the long dining room table doing our makeup together, trading products, and laughing. Great way to start my wedding day!

Think about it this way – if the Duchess of Cambridge can do her own make up, so can you!
Just make sure it’s more dramatic than what you normally wear so that it would show up in photos. Andthat you have things such as primer and a good setting powder…

I did. I’m cheap and I wanted to look like me on my wedding day. I already wear a lot of make up so it wasn’t a big deal. I actually did most of my bridesmaid hair and makeup haha. Here’s some weird candid pictures of me getting ready but they’re the only one that shows my makeup up close.

I think your regular makeup looks great, my only change would not to wing out your eyeliner as much and go with thicker lashesl

I did my own makeup. No regrets here. I looked very much so like myself (although a bit better because I worked harder at it). Plus I got awesome pictures of myself doing my makeup in my dress (courtsey of my friend who did my photography).

I did my own and my sister helped a lot too. I didn’t want to pay someone and I like my sisters work so it was an easy decision.

I did my own! I’m totally comfortable with makeup and am the person everyone wants to do their makeup before a night out so I didn’t have any fears. I also use a high quality makeup in general so wasn’t worried about it lasting 12+ hours! I just felt like I know better than anyone else how I like my makeup! I would do several test runs if you aren’t sure about a look or if the makeup will hold up!

I am planning on doing my own because of budget. Your day to day makeup is beautiful! If I was you I would just make the eyeliner a touch thinner for your wedding day to make it “natuarally” beautiful. And then a little bit of extra highlighter to shimmer. Maybe switch to a slightly lighter color for the centre of your eye to tie in the light colors of your outfit (assuming you’re wearing white).
