I had a repeat c-section scheduled with my OB and unfortunately ended up going into labor early on a night when he was not on call so another OB whom I had never met ended up doing the c-section. It kind of sucks but honestly at the time I didn’t care who the hell did the surgery I just wanted the baby out lol.

Is it normal practice in America for the doctor to deliver the baby? Where I’m from in Australia the midwives normally deliver the babies, unless something has gone wrong and the doctor is required, or if it’s a section of course! A lot of the time the doctor isn’t around when the babies are born!

There are four OBs in my doctor’s practice. I met them all during my pre-natal visits, and my second choice (my primary was first choice) delivered. He was great, and it doesn’t matter to me at all that my primary didn’t deliver- I would have pretty much been comfortable with any of them. (Okay, the other male OB sort of looked like one of my ex BFs, which would have been a little weird, but…)
another advantage of having your OB be part of a practice is when they do the rounds in the hospital. I ended up staying four nights, due to having a c-section. knowing the doctors who come in for the rounds was also nice.
