Just curious, do any of you have wedding planners? Was it worth your investment? Was thinking about looking into getting some help, but I know they can be pricey.

This might help you get an idea. http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/wedding-planners-are-they-worth-it
I don’t. Not worth it to me because I am ultra-organized and I like being in control. I can understand the need for one if you are having a very elaborate or complex weddings I suppose. Mine isn’t either. My officiant however, I think his wife is included in the price and she acts as a type of “organizer” at the ceremony.
We aren’t having one. kes18 summarized it perfectly. I’m super organized and don’t want to give up the control haha. Where I’m from everyone just does it themselves. It will be something to look back on and say yep we did all that.
I am having a wedding planner. They are provided with the hotel wedding package.
I did. The first planner was downright incompetent. The second planner had a great plan, but shoddy execution. In hindsight, I definitely think that you need someone on the “day of” to make sure everything runs smoothly, but utilize your family as backup in the even that your planners fall short on execution.
I had one, and she was totally worth it! She saved us thousands of dollars with her vendor connections, and it was really nice having someone I could turn to for advice and help.
You might want to turn this one into a poll, that way you can get a percentage of people who did use and didn’t use them.
I don’t have a wedding planner, but I do have a Day of Coordinator. 2 of my good friends used her and I have seen weddings with a DOC and without…it runs much more smoothly with one. I am a very type A personality who always has all her ducks in a row, however for my wedding day I wanted to not worry about anything. If something goes wrong, I don’t want to know. It’s the one day I decided I am not going to worry and I don’t want the responsibility. I also have an anxiety disorder, so having her there will help with that as well. I just want to have a great day with my (soon to be!) husband.
He on the other hand, thinks its a waste of money and rarely lets a day go by without telling me so. Oh well, we’ll see on the wedding day if she was worth it or not 😉
My venue has a coordinatoor that provided us with a checklist of things we need to do and plan and it’s pretty self-explanatory. They also have a preferred vendors list but most of them are quite pricey, so I have been doing research on my own and have found much better rates from other vendors. I spoke to a wedding planner in Hawaii (I’m having a DW) and she was asking for $5k for her services! Ridiculous! I think most wedding planners in Hawaii are charging an arm and a leg and I just don’t think it’s worth it when there are so many resources online. I am also getting advice/help from friends/relatives that are already married, so that’s a huge help as well.
I have a wedding coordinator through my venue and an outside wedding planner. She’s actually doing it for me for free because she is just starting to break into the business so she’s trying to build up her portfolio. She’s got three wedding before mine comes up, but she’s been so awesome so far. Also, I have my venue coordinator there if anything slips through the cracks the day of (which is the part I didn’t want to have to worry about.
My venue has a coordinator who I think would really like to plan my wedding for me, but I don’t particularly care for her attitude/vision, so I went ahead and planned everything without her! I’m organized and have a clear plan for my wedding, so I really will just use her as a day of coordinator. However, I am SO happy to have a day of coordinator because on the big day, I just don’t want to deal with flower/linen/dj/videographer/cake deliveries and set up.
Will be having a DOC. I had already planned most of the wedding in my head by the time I was engaged. wedding wire helped with vendor recs. So, I didn’t see the point having someone besides the day of. TOTALLY worth it.
We have a planner and I am so glad that we do! We live about 3 hours from the city where we will be getting married and we both have full time jobs. Our planner helped us figure out our vision and our budget, then when we can be in town, sets up meetings with two or three vendors that fit our price range and will “get” what we want. It makes shopping so easy – because I’m only choosing between two cake companies, or two florists – I trust our planner to have given us the best to pick from, and I don’t have to spend the time wedding out vendors that wouldn’t fit.
