I am going to have 2, 20×30 foot tents for my reception. I’m wondering if anyone know how many 12″ and 16″ paper lanterns I should buy to decorate the tops of each of the tents? Any help or tips would be wonderfu!

We are having 2 20×40 tents – we’re doing a dozen 10inch and 6 18inch lanterns in each.

I have been mulling over this great debate, too. I guess a big consideration is whether you are using the laterns for actually lighting needs or not. We have enough standard lighting at our venue, so our laterns will just be for ambience. What I am thinking is one large (16″) and one smaller laterns (12″) per table. That would come to 17 large and 17 small. For a 20X60 tent area, that would be one latern about every 3.5 sq. ft. We’ll have a separate tented dance floor that will have string lanterns.

It really depends on how much of the top you want covered, and how dense you want the coverage to be. You might check this link for pictures and descriptions of how Miss Tiramisu did it. You could then get more or fewer lanterns, depending on whether you want more or less coverage than she had.
