We had a casual park catered reception a few months after our winter wedding. Our invite list was nearly 350 (my parents feel the need to invite everyone they know) but the park only held 150 comfortably under the pavillion. We had an event on FB created but never sent Save-The-Date Cards and I intentionally waited until about 4 weeks before to send out the invites. We had about 200 accept and nearly 200 (not all the same people who accepted) show.

We invited 550 and 480-500 showed up. Out of the entire guest list, I had about 30 people on my side. The rest was all DHs.

You asked how do you invite so many people somewhere up on another response. For us it was mainly family size….. My family is nonexistent, but my hubby has around 250 immediate family members. In his culture, there are a lot of “have to” invites…..mostly from the parents…. Friends of friends and people who invited them in the past……stuff like that.

Reason why over 50 people didn’t come is because the wedding was in Los Angeles and most of those declines were out of state family :).

We invited about 165 and had 152 on the day of the wedding, which was a lot more than I had expected. Our venue had plenty of space (capacity was 180), but all of my husband’s side of the family and his family friends were coming from Out of Town. His mom kept telling me she was 100% sure some of her (many) friends would decline – turns out, only 1 couple did. Luckily we had plenty of space and room in the budget, but I was definitely assuming we’d have a higher decline rate than we did.

21 total, about 45 or so were invited. Ours is a Destination Wedding, so we knew some people wouldn’t be able to make it. I was very selective with the guest list…we wanted a small wedding.

Reading these posts makes me even more thrilled that my ex and I didn’t work out, as he comes from a big italian family where his father is one of 10 and he is one of 5.

Woo…. would not be able to handle that kind of volume for a wedding.

forevervirgo:  Haha I still don’t know how we pulled this off. I was all for a Vegas elopement, but as you can see, there were a lot of people that would’ve been very disappointed.

We have a pretty large middle eastern community in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, there are a lot of banquet halls big enough to hold this amount and even more. Our hall held up to 550. My cousin is getting married in January and her hall holds up to 650. Given she is the first born, it’ll be a full house.

Here’s a picture. Now, it may look like cramped because everyone was up dancing the dabke (it is a traditional line dance in my husband’s country) lol. And half the hall is missing 🙂

sunfl0wergirl:  You have no idea how ridiculously stressful it is to have a big wedding. Your ex’s family sounds very much like my in laws and their family. I had full blown meltdowns when we were making the guest list. I don’t like to be the center of attention so a big wedding was never something I desired… I am cool with 10 people and a beach somewhere.

MrsPiggles:  Yeaaahh… My fiance and I got up to 110-115 planning ours and I had a melt down and said nope…not happening.

(Unmedicated anxiety with panic attacks and fainting, standing in front of 100+ people? No thanks!)

We invited 320 (180 live on the east coast, so we knew most would decline), 200 RSVP’d yes, and only about 120 showed up the day of, maybe less. It was a nice turn out, but if we knew so many people werent going to come after saying they were we could’ve saved so much money on food!!

forevervirgo:  We invited 67 and 60 exactly attended, and I do consider that in the small zone. To me, below 75 is small, 75-150 is moderate, and 150+ is large.

Our wedding involved a lot of travel for all of our guests, so we expected alot of declines.  We invited 100.  Received 65 yes RSVPs, and only ended up with 50 showing up.  I’m still a little sore about all of the no shows who RSVP’d yes.
