we are in the process of writing ours now, we chose to go with a format that both of us would follow so genearlly they will both have a flow like this:

you are my _______(best friend, true love, soul mate…etc)

Today, I choose you to be my ________

    I love you because _______

I promise you that I will be __ (maybe some promises about how we will continually work towards being better people ourselves)

I vow to __________(whatever vows we want to make to one another)

for______(as long as we live, better or worse, until the end of time….)

I definitely stole that from somewhere, but i didn’t source it in my notes so i’m not sure! Good luck!

We are writing our own vows since we feel like its the most important part of our wedding day!

I’d say what we are doing is a bit in between. We aren’t surprising each other, but we have worked together to write the vows to say exactly what we want. We started with what the rabbi gave us and have been editing little by little and by now they are completely different and completely our own. I’m so happy with what we came up with and feel like this was a nice way to make them personal without the pressure of having to write them in my own. 🙂

We said our own.  I didn’t want to say anything I couldn’t 100% get behind, feel right about, etc.  It meant a lot to me to just be honest and concise and pour it out, so to say.

I would only write my own if we eloped, some things are too personal to say in front of everyone you know. I am a terroble procrastinator when it comes to writing though, so most likely we will just go with the standard vows.

We went the traditional route. I have been to a few weddings where the couple wrote their own vows and they were a bit uhh..tmi for my taste lol.

We had a nerd wedding and wrote our own. And our officiant wrote his own version of the speech, which included some Doctor Who, Green Lantern, Star Wars, and other references. 😀

We wrote our own, but talked about it beforehand so they would be balanced. There’s nothing more awkward than one person joking about that first weekend away while the other person pours their heart out!

We decided we’d write about 3 things we loved about the other person, then 3 things that we wanted to promise.

We are writing our own. My SO isn’t big on emoting either, but I told him this was the one big thing I wanted so he agreed. However, I also told him that he shouldn’t feel pressured into being someone he’s not (i.e. romantic). I’m fully prepared for a sweet, yet sarcastic speech from him. I think it would be really strange otherwise 🙂
