The wedding will have about 85 guests, and we will be having a cocktail reception right after the ceremony. I am going to have some high tables, but I don’t know how many I should get. There will also be a few benches for people to sit at. I am also on a budget! How many tall tables do you think are necessary?

Is this in lieu of tables for eating dinner at? Or are you just having high tables and hordoevres for your reception? I would say get at least 15 high tables if these are the 2 to 3 foot round tables we are talking about. I think they say 4 people can comfortably stand around those 2 to 3 foot round high tables.

Yes, this is just for cocktails & yes I am talking about those small tables of 2-3 feet.
I also know that last time I was at a wedding, everyone definitely wasn’t around one of those tables, so I didn’t know if I needed as many as would accommodate every guest (esp since there is also some seating in the cocktail area–actual chairs as well as other things like fountains). So if I wasn’t doing enough to have a “place” for every guest, what do you think the appropriate # would be?

I’d think 10-15 would be good… are you going to have some sort of seating at all for the guests?

Its hard to describe where it is, but its like a mini-park, so there are like “park benches” which I would put some throw pillows on. There are also other things there which are easy to sit on (and which I usually do sit on when I am there, like the edges of a fountain).
The other cocktail hours I have been at didn’t have any seating, so I wasn’t really worried about providing enough of that for each of the guests.
PS…@ Crebe — saw the dress….HOT! Front-on shots especially look amazing…and you look like you were having such a great time!! How many dresses did you try before you made a decision?

We had 85 guests at our wedding in May and for sit down it was 9 tables, but only 68 showed up.
For standing tables, 10-15 is appropriate.

Thanks….I’ll reserve somewhere in there…maybe 12. Which is definitely more than I was originally thinking, but the consistency of all your answers definitely made me rethink. The space is pretty big, but I am not sure yet whether we can put the tables on the grass, or if we have to put them on the sidewalk & I don’t want them to be too crowded.

I would say ten since you will have benches and it sounds like there’s a walking area. People tend to do outside with drinks, they mingle, so they don’t always stay at the tables the whole time.
