I think it’s fine to have as much as you will regularly use and have room to store.

We have one set of everyday dishes (Corelle Hearthstone, which I love) and a set of Japanese Plum Blossom dishes that I use for fancier dinners (though they’re actually quite inexpensive).  I also have most of a set of Lomonosov Cobalt Net china back at my mom’s house, which I collected throughout my teens.  Someday the manflesh is going to build me a china hutch for our dining room, and then I’ll bring that down here too.

We have two- a cheap white china for every day, and then nicer stoneware set that we got for free through my SO’s work (he was in the right place in the right time haha). And then we have some randoms from when we lived apart, which just so happen to all be black. So I guess we have three sets haha.

We’ll be registering for a new set of every day dishes, and I’ll be given some fine china my mom’s been saving for me. But we probably won’t register for nicer dishes, seeing as we have a very nice set of 6 sets.

Oh my I have/will have tons of dinnerware after we are married! When my Fiance and I went to register I fell in love with Jardin by espanaware and I loved how they looked with fiesta. So we registered for eight sets of each. I thought at first that I didn’t want fine china but I wanted to have a lot of place settings because I already hold holiday dinners as my mom isn’t very into that kind of thing. Well, two things happened. First, we found out that the jardin plates are being discontinued! I was so upset my Fiance bought be a set of 6 plus a pitcher, berry colander, and six pasta bowls and fruit bowls. Well, my family found out that I was upset and before I could tell them we bought some…they bought out the jardin off my registry! I returned two sets because they were missing pieces in the box. So I have 10 place settings of the jardin. Eight settings of the fiesta plus many serving pieces. Also, I ended up LOVING the Hotel collection fine china at Macys and registered for three sets of four place settings. SO…On my registry/in my house I will have 18 casual dinnerware sets and 12 (sorta) fine china place settings. There are other colors I want now too of fiesta so I will probably end up with 4 more place settings of that.None of these sets are particularly cheap or expensive. At least on sale it isn’t. No one has said (at least to me) that it was too much. Plus, I have found that people LOVE to buy dinnerware. It was one of the first things to go from my registry! And I have not even had my shower yet :).

My mom has some super casual plastic type stuff, a full set of everyday, and two full sets (including all the serving pieces) of fine china.

It’s only too much if you don’t have a place for it.

Register for what you want. No one is analyzing your registry as long as there are items at all price points.
