Mine is being altered from a 12 to a 4.  It was a sample ($230 :)) and the seamstress for the shop assured me it would be no problem.  However there isn’t a lot of detail on it at all, just some very simple beading at the top and it’s a corset back already.

@eeruhlig:  Not really… I happen to find a really good independant seamstress in my area whos prices were not outrageous.  I paid $130 for that including hemming, cups, and 13 pt bustle.

Mine is being altered from a 6 to a 2.  12 to a 4 might be too much depending on how detailed your dress is and how good the seamstress is.  My mom’s the best seamstress in town (I’m biased of course), so I know she’d be able to, but altering wedding dresses takes a lot of skill.  Pretty much any dress can be taken in, but depending on the style of the dress, restructuring may be needed.  For example, if you have a sweetheart top made for a size 12, taking it in to a size 4 may require recutting the neckline to fit the shape of size 4 boobs.  You should do lots of research and find a reputable seamstress.  Good luck with everything!
