1 magazine, then 8 months of fantasizing. Then after going to one store that didn’t have it I bought it used online and I’ve never looked back. But I think its totally acceptable to try on 20 dresses and would have tried on a ton if I hadn’t seen it in a magazine. Its a very big purchase for most brides, so I think buying after only seeing a few things is a bad plan. If you happen to do lots of research first, then its certainly reasonable to purchase in the first store. But thats hard to do without having dress regret.

I teach high school so I have the summers off.  Summer was coming to an end and I wanted to find my dress hopefully before summer was over.  I made an appointment at an out of town salon on Friday and then one in town on Saturday.  I knew I found “the one” at the first place, but kept my appointment because it just didn’t seem logical for me to buy a dress on day 1 of looking.  Not 1 dress at the 2nd place came even close to the one I found at the 1st place.

I ended up calling about 2 months later and made an appointment to come get remeasured and to order my dress.  (They took my measurements the 1st time so I could just call, but I waited so long they wanted me to come in again.)  When I told my mom and Future Mother-In-Law they both said how excited they were that that was the one I chose.  They were so quiet during the process and that was the 1st real opinion they gave.

Ok I voted 5 stores… but it went like this:

Shop #1: Small salon – Try on my dream dress from online and some similar ones (and a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress… which is the Bridesmaid or Best Man dress I chose πŸ™‚ )

Shop #2: Smaller salon, farther away, great reviews – Try on several dresses that I like and my dream dress again

Shop #3: DB – Tried on a dress that I loved on the model, but my torso was too short for the style of the dress… So I would’ve needed some very complicated alterations… And the ruching on the dress made it look a little bit wrinkled.  Decided it was too much work and I might not love it

Shop #4: AA – Went in for a dress I saw in an ad, which I thought was also the one my mom wanted me to try there.  Turns out there was a different dress my mom wanted me to try.  Tried on mom’s first and never even tried on mine… I fell in love.

Shop #5: Another small shop – Only went here to re-try on my dream dress… to make sure I really loved the AA dress more πŸ™‚ And I did – AA won.

THEN – Back to Shop #2 — We got the owner to order the AA dress through a shop owner friend of hers because we loved that salon and owner, but loved the AA dress πŸ™‚

I actually saw the dress I wanted online. I tracked down a store that had it, triEd it on and brought it, after trying on other dresses at the kid time.

5 stores and about 30 dresses later, I found my dress! If you are having difficulty maybe you can get something custom made? It’s worth it to find out the price if you are liking parts of different dresses!

I went to 3 different stores but had 4 trips. I went to the same boutique twice. I was extremely picky, as well. I tried on about 120 dresses! Dress selection was not a fun part of the wedding planning for me!

    1. It was the second dress I’d ever tried on.

I went to the same salon twice and tried on less than 10 dresses. When I first tried my dress on, I liked certian things about it, but it didn’t really click with me. I went back a 2nd time and tried on what I thought was my ‘dream dress’ and didn’t feel great in it, so I put my dress back on and suddenly loved it, especially once they put the veil on me.

Maybe go back and try on a few dresses that you originally loved but weren’t ‘sure’ about. Sometimes you really do need to put something on twice, on different days for it to finally hit you that it’s your dress.

I think I went to about 8-10 stores. I can’t remember. I was trying to top a dress that was a tad bit out of budget. It never happened so I wasted a lot of time. I am a teacher and had the summer off so it was a good way to fill up my time!

About 1 month of searching online and making phone calls to stores.  Then two stores, trying on my final choices.
