I’ve always pronounced it with one syllable (like knoll in your poll). My only experience with this name is Noel Kahn from the Pretty Little Liars books. 🙂

I pronounce it “Nole” like Noel from the TV show Felicity when it’s a name. When it’s not a name but used in a christmas context, I pronounce it with 2 “No-Elle.” If it’s a girl’s name then it’s spelt Noelle and pronounced “No-Elle” as well.

I’ve always thought it was two like the Christmas music but the only time I’ve heard it as a name they had it as one (Pretty Little Liars).

I’m french (Noel is the french word for Christmas) and so I’ve always pronounced it with 2 syllables. No-uhl (for a mans name), No-elle the rest of the time.

I’d pronounce it “No-Elle”, like Christmas.  So two syllables.

    I think if it’s a girl it’s 2 No-el and if it’s a boy it’s 1…Knoll.

If it was a mans name I would pronounce it like “Nole”.  No-elle if you were specifically using it for Christmas. I think if it were for a woman it would be actually spelled Noelle, and I would pronounce it that way.  If I saw Noel as a woman’s name….I really don’t know what I’d think of that.  I proably wouldn’t know how to pronounce it.

Noel is a french name, a man’s name, and is pronounced like the Christmas song “The First Noel.”  “No- el.”  Similar to the female name “Noelle.”  Some have another version pronounced “Noul” like, a grassy knoll.

Two! This is actually going to be our future daughter’s first or middle name. We both love it plus it is DH’s late grandfather’s name (Leon) backwards, so it makes it even more special.
