I am so sorry for your loss. It’s always so hard to say goodbye to a pet that’s been with you and loved you unconditionally. Even harder when it’s one of those that come along and just have that extra special bond, the kind that you truly never forget. It sounds like Hunnie was your “heart dog”.

I am so glad you were able to come home and spend those last hours with her. I know she is so grateful for all the love and happiness you gave her, and will love you always. My thoughts are with you right now.

Oh youve just made me cry!

I lost my very special dog in 2001 and still have dreams about her!!

I lost her the morning of my Veterinary medicine entrance exams, and was so upset I came very close to not being able to sit them, somehow I did and am now a Vet

I can absolutely understand what youre going through, dogs are unbelievably adept at sneaking into your heart and stealing a little piece forever.

You will never replace her, and you were lucky to have her-

My heart goes out to you right now-

Ive attached below a little story that has given me comfort x

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

I’m so so sorry for your loss. You made the right decision for her, though. What a sweet face she had!

this one is my favourite-

Tribute To A Best Friend

Sunlight streams through window pane
unto a spot on the floor….
then I remember,
it’s where you used to lie,
but now you are no more.
Our feet walk down a hall of carpet,
and muted echoes sound….
then I remember,
It’s where your paws would joyously abound.
A voice is heard along the road,
and up beyond the hill,
then I remember it can’t be yours….
your golden voice is still.
But I’ll take that vacant spot of floor
and empty muted hall
and lay them with the absent voice
and unused dish along the wall.
I’ll wrap these treasured memorials
in a blanket of my love
and keep them for my best friend
until we meet above.

@melisslp: Cry Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry! I know how you feel. I had a lab, beautiful black lab that was only a few years old, and she had some sort of stroke, and for days she could not walk. We were going to put her down, but decided to let the vet look after her for a few days, and she improved. In the end we still had to part with her due to our landlord not allowing dogs (relocated). But, I am so sorry for your loss. I know it was hard, but you did the right thing. Animals, they hold a special place in many hearts…

ugh losing a pet is so depressing 🙁 I am so very sorry.  Your story made me cry.  I put my 18 yr old furbaby down almost a year ago.  It does get easier.  But there are times I am VERY sad and I anticipate my angel cat anniversary in a few weeks is going to be very difficult.  Just know you did the right thing!  You’re doggie will be patiently waiting for you. *hugs*

Awww… I know exactly how you feel, and I still cry about mine when I think of her last days and how strong she tried to be. 🙁  I’m not sure you ever really get over it, but after all the tears, you’ll be able to smile at all the memories you have of her.

I’m so sorry! Keep your chin up and remind yourself she is without pain and enjoying herself in a field somewhere, playing with her favorite toys / chasing animals / etc. My coworker just recently had to put her dog down due to cancer, and it’s been really tough for her.

My boys are still young (1 1/2 and 9 months, my first dogs), but I still dread that day in the future. Everytime I read stories like this I get teary eyed.

@melisslp:  I can’t even begin to tell you how sorry I am for your loss.  We put our beloved Yellow Lab, Max, to sleep a year and a half ago and it still hurts.  You will always have beautiful memories and I hope you have peace knowing that in her life you made sure she knew love.  Love never ends, it just changes forms. ((hugs))

I am so sorry! One of the things that sucks the most about running a cat sanctuary is when I lose them. I take it very hard every time. Even with the ferals. I am even more grief-stricken when I lose one of my favorites or when I have to have them put down.

I have been told that when we cross over, our animal companions greet us first. I have a huge crowd waiting for me. Know that your love will never die and that someday you will be reunited with your furbaby again!
