@MrsAKSkier:  Our ultrasounds are covered by public healthcare so unless there’s a good reason to have a dating U/S, N/T or growth, they won’t offer them. My pregnancy has been about as low risk as they come so no other free U/S’s for me! 🙂

@NLbride:  12 weeks @ my first midwife appointment. She used a doppler & found it right away!

@MrsRugbee:  Ok, thank you! I am hoping that’s what I will have, too. I am so anxious to see a doctor and know what’s up. Ontario seems to offer a lot more, but maybe we’re a lot more similar to QC, since I have already been told my first u/s will be at 20 weeks.

@NLbride:  From the pamphlet I was reading, because they can’t offer 12 & 37 week U/S’s in remote areas, the Minister of Health just doesn’t include them in standard care. It might be similar reasons in Newfoundland.

I’m planning on 2 – NT screening and anatomy scan. My mom had none when she was pregnant with me. She works as an OB nurse, had easy access to ultrasounds and has always been intimately familiar with all that can go wrong in a pregnancy. She just felt very optimistic during her pregnancy and knew she could handle any outcome. She is awesome.

I have an uncomplicated pregnancy, and I just had the anatomy scan at 19 weeks, and will have one more around 37 weeks (I’m not exactly what for. to check positioning I guess?)

I have had 7 ultrasounds. I have a history of ectopic pregnancy, so I had two very early ones to make sure the pregnancy was in the right place and to check for viability. I had my NT scan at 12 weeks. I then had one at 15 weeks when I had my gallstone attack, and was having my gallbladder looked at through ultrasound and they showed me baby just for fun. I had a gender scan at 16 weeks. Anatomy scan at 21. Went into hospital at 26 for gallbladder issues again and saw her for a brief second there too.

I don’t THINK I’ll have any more, but if my GD isn’t well controlled or my baby is looking to be large through fundal measurements I might just to check if the GD is affecting her size too much.

My husband is a sonographer (over 30 years).  You don’t NEED an ultrasound.  Unless the doctor feels something is wrong.

Our insurance covers 2 for a normal pregnancy in weeks 12 and 20 (or thereabouts). So, we have had 2 official ultrasounds. But our friend works in a clinic and needed to learn, so she gave me a 9 week and 18 week, and wants to see baby in third tri, too. So we will have 5 total.

I don’t know for sure, so I didn’t vote. But I expect I will have two, unless something warrants an additional. I have my first appt at 8 weeks on Friday….and if my doctor doesn’t plan to give me one, I will beg and plead for one just so I can see the heartbeat. I’ve been really nervous.
