@amazingbee:  For bakeries, I only met with one.  I called one other to set up a tasting and get a quote and they were SO UNBELIEVABLY RUDE!  Plus, my mom’s friend works for the bakery I met with so we got a discount AND they’re so close to my venue they don’t charge a delivery fee – I was sold!

But meet with as many as it takes for you to be reassured that you’re making the right choice.  If it’s the first one, let it be IMO 🙂

We only went to two places.  A hotel near us and then Disney (my family lives in Orlando).  We ended up going with Disney because, 1) It’s Disney! 2) Their weddings include a wedding planner and most of the wedding elements are provided in-house (FI has been deployed for much of the wedding planning, so this was a plus).

Picked first and only venue we looked at (I knew I wanted it years before getting engaged). Picked first caterer (Venue only allowed choice of 2 and since the first gave reasonable quote and had good tasting didn’t bother talking to the other). First florist (met with her and she understood my vision immediately). We saw only 2 bands, and watched them play the same night, chose the 2nd we saw in that night, they were amazing and I’m super excited for them. We did hate the first photographer we met with, so we saw another, love her and chose her. Chose the first invitation person we met with (met with a second just in case they had a lower price, but didn’t like them). Pickd a dress my first time out (it was like the 10th I tried on, but still, bought the first and only time I went looking). Wedding planning has been fairly easy so far, I’m pretty decisive, if somebody is good I don’t bother looking wondering “what else is out there.” If I did that I would never get married, wondering if there’s something better out there LOL

Edit: ours is also semi-destination (300 miles away) so our efficiency has really helped there. I’ve gone down there 3 times throughout the entire year of planning, once to see the venue before signing (we also met with caterer and florist and first photographer that day), once to do a tasting with the caterer and see the bands, and once to get the marriage license and get my hair and makeup trial (also met with the caterer again since she does the timeline and acts as day-of coordinator, and had the florist join us at the venue to see the space). The next time we drive down will be for the wedding!

For cakes?  I only met with 1.  But I had read her reviews beforehand, which were excellent!  Also, I had already looked at her photos so I knew she could make it look great.  When we went it we tasted it and it was great so that was all I needed.

Venues- I only saw 2 in person

    Photographers- 2

    Florists- 6! Yes 6

DJ- I only met with 1, but then hired someone else without meeting them!

Officiant- I hired him without meeting him, though I talked to him on the phone

Makeup/Hair- haven’t met her yet, but going off of reviews

    Cake- Met with 1

This is in the order I booked vendors.  As you can see, after the florists…I had gotten tired of meeting with people!

Venue – 1 (we knew where we wanted our ceremony)

Florist – will only meet 1. I want him, and no one else, so that’s that.

Photographer – 1 (recommended by a friend, love her, and don’t care about the cost.)

    Cater – haven’t booked yet

Cake – haven’t got there yet either. Will likely shop around a bit for this one

DJ – I have someone in mind, and if I can afford him, than I’ll hire him. If not, well, we’ll shop around there too.

    Dress shop – 1

    Hair & Make-up – not there yet.

Basically, if I like someone, and feel we are on the same page, I just book them and stop thinking about it. I really can’t be bothered to shop around much, and I only bother with meeting vendor that a) I can afford or b) I want regardless of price, and will find a way to afford.

Only met with one of every vendor except the reception space, which we visited two options for.  We also planned long distance, so we narrowed down options as much as possible before meeting literally everyone over a weeklong Christmas vacation. Admittedly, we got married in a small town so there weren’t that many options, but still, it can be done

We almost booked the first baker we met with, but I had set up an appointment for the next day, which we decided to keep. So glad we did, because the second baker’s cake tasted just as good if not better, and we got a much better price.

I had phone calls with 2-3 DJs before signing, met with only one florist, and we visited only three venues (two of which we booked). Our photographer and videographer were friendors.

We were very picky who we would even set up an appointment with. They needed to have great reviews, reasonable prices, and good communication and service. We lucked out and ended up within our budget, and none of our vendors let us down.

We’re having a Destination Wedding and only met with 2 vendors on our “scouting” trip: photographer and venue!

We’ve been really relying on reviews (from the internet and friends who live near our destination or were married there). I know, it’s nervewracking but at some point I think you have to let it go and hope for the best when you can’t be there in person!

For the catering, we met with 3 caterers, booked the 3rd one. Third one wass the charm…people raved about the food.

I only met with 1 florist and booked her right away.  I did go around to various other shops to get price quotes to see if I could get the florals cheaper but she was by far the cheapest.  I got lucky and she nailed it!

Baker… met with 1, asked for info from another and called aorund to various others.  But the 3rd baker I met with, I booked.  His cake was good and his price was even better.

Dj: met with 2, booked the 2nd but wish I had gone with the first…but he was so out of my budget.

Officiant I actually booked before meeting with him. And only met with him.

I met with 3 hairstylists and booked the 3rd one.

Only met with the transportation company I booked over the phone…
