@vess5:  Do you have people who will need to fly? They might need/want more time. We sent ours out about 12 weeks out for that reason. If you sent out save the dates then maybe it isn’t as big a deal, but we did it just to make sure. (BTW I misclicked on the poll and meant to vote for 10-12 weeks rather than 8-10.)

We only have a few people that will need to travel more than 2 hours and they are close family who knew well in advance everyone else is less than an hour away. Ours went out the last week of December, I wanted them out early because I don’t trust the post office. I am glad we did sent them out really early because we are exactly 30 days away and I just got one of our invitations in back in the mail that it couldn’t be delivered, yet we sent two to that address and the other didn’t come back.

i chose that we’re sending ours more than 15 wks out, but it’s a destination wedding in expensive, popular area that everyone will have to fly to (or drive over 6 hrs) and reserve hotel rooms for And we’re doing 2 rounds of invites.

If I were you, I’d send invites out a month before RSVP deadline and I’d set RSVP deadline as 2-3 weeks before I actually wanted to have the rsvps. Depending on that, seems like sending invites 8-12 weeks out might be good?

@vess5:  our wedding is May 10, but we need to give the caterer a final head count 30 business days prior, which ends up being Mar 31 (crazy!). So we sent out our invites Feb 10 with an RSVP date of Mar 20, to give us some time to round up the stragglers.

Our reception was November 9th (did private ceremony on the 8th), and we sent out the invitations towards the end of August – so I believe 8-10 weeks?

guests that are flying, I already let them know (obviously these are family and life long friends who I know will be invited) – so that is a year and a half ahead (i know its a long time but people coming home for the summer (taking a 2 day flight), might as well book their holidays to cover our wedding date since they book a year in advance so that they can get cheaper flights.  The usual here for local people is 4 weeks in advance.  If you dont get your invite 3 – 4 weeks in advance, it means you are not invited!

@vess5:  Expectations can vary according to location.

I know our families are expecting them sometime soon, even wondering where they are even though we sent Save-The-Date Cards 16months before the wedding date.

After an internet search of UK forums, the invitations here seem to be sent out 3-5months in advance with a RSVP date 2months before the wedding date giving aroung 1month to chase non-responders before giving numbers to venues/caterers etc.

We are hoping we can sent ours out by April (as soon as our venue arranges the menu tasting we can confirm menu and print RSVP cards) with an RSVP date of June 1st
