This might be a stupid question but how do you calculate how many weeks pregnant you are? I know you go by your LMP which for me was Oct.5th. Would I be 4 weeks on Nov.5th (1 month later) or would 4 weeks be Nov.2nd (today!) because that’s 4 weeks on a calendar?
Again sorry if this is a silly question! The reason I want to know if that my first ultrasound is for Dec.3rd, so will I be 8wks 3 days or???
My first ultrasound is supposed to be an early dating one, so should I go when I am closer to 6-7 weeks??

@mrsceltic: You’re four weeks today. 🙂

@iheartnerds: Thanks for the reply! Do you know when is the best time to get a dating ultrasound? When do you usually see the heartbeat ect?

@mrsceltic: I would wait till you are at least 7 weeks. I had one at 6 week and they couldnt see the heart beat, I went back a week later and you could see it. Some people see it at 6 weeks but it would be a shame for you if you had to do it twice.

@mrsceltic: Also I am not sure how regular your cycles are. If it is a normal 28 dayish cycle then it makes sense to date from the day of your last period. However I have longer cycles and so its actually dated from two weeks prior to ovulation rather than first day of last period. Keep that in mind when your planning your ultrasound as you dont want to be dissapointed if you go and miss the heartbeat 🙂

You can also go onto some of the pregnancy sites like what to expect and they have where you put in the day of your last missed period and it will calculate it for you. I would call your OB and tell them your pregnant and they’ll schedule you for ultrasound according to when they typically see you first. Mine was at 12 weeks.
Good luck and congratulations!
