Id wait and make the number you need. Especially if your wedding is still almost a year away.

devec :  welcome bags were one of the last things we did (we literally put them togetherr days before the wedding). you have to wait to find out how many guests you have before you can make the bags!

devec :  ahh, gotcha. our weddding was semi-desintation, so everyonee had to book lodging. we didn’t have a hotel block (long story), so on our RSVP (we did online-only RSVPS) we asked guests where they booked lodging so we would know who was where (we also provided transportation so we needed that info anyway). anyone who didn’t fiil it on the RSVP, we followed up with about 2 weeks before the wedding to ask about their acccommodations.

catskillsinjune : Okay, that is a BRILLAINT idea to ask for the hotle on the online RSVPs, I think I am going to steel this. Our wedding is in San Francisco and there are SO many different hotels nearby I am not sure where peole are going to stay. I also did not do a hotel block (also a long story..!) so the options for everyone are endless.

The hotel most of my guests are staying in provides the room block information so you know who is staying. I’m planning on providing one bag per couple (or individual) vs. per room. We have a few rooms with 4 people and one bag won’t cover it.

Word of caution on welcome bags, a friend of mine did hers way in advance and when her Fiance went back and looked at them he realized all the snacks would expire before the wedding so they had to start all over again, so don’t do it too far in advance.

I’m waiting to closer to the wedding for this too.  Oriental Trading has some nice “welcome to our wedding” bags that are sold by the dozen.  I don’t think we’ll need more than 24 (less than $12 for that).  We only doing bags for out of town guest.  In town people are already here, why do we need to welcome them.  Our venue has a list of near by hotels that offer discounts.  I got a block at two and included them with the save the dates.

Our cake baker does a popcorn bar (you can get popcorn in your colors).  We’re not doing that, but I’m thinking about getting some popcorn to put in the welcome bags.  I’ll know how many I’ll need when I get the RSVP’s back.
