did you pay for your wedding bands? We went and picked ours out today and I was shocked at how expensive they were. I guess because I don’t wear or buy jewelry, I didn’t think simple white gold bands would cost over $300 each! Were any of you surprised at how much they cost?

Yes, I was really surprised at the cost in the jewelry stores for their most basic bands. So instead, I looked online and found them for a lot less! Overstock dot com has some for around $150, and the men’s tungsten bands are about $50.

I was pretty shocked at how much gold bands cost, yes, gold is at an all time high now, but I still dont think it was reasonable. We ended up paying 1100 for mine, 1/3ct half eternity, platinum. His was $50, tungstun carbide from overstock.

I think mine came out to about $350, which is a pretty good price for a platinum weddingband.

My Fiance has really large hands (size 12.5) so that jacked up the price a little. We really wanted to buy from this place though, because they are a local business that’s been there forever. They were so good to my Fiance when he got my engagement ring that he wanted to give them the repeat business instead of going to some big chain store.

@speechgal44: Can you negotiate a better price? Did you shop around and find better prices for the same weight/kt gold? You could tell this jeweler that, and explain as you did here… that you would like to continue to give them your business, but the bottom line counts too and you both want a good deal/sale. The jeweler we got my wedding band is where he got my e-ring, but they first quoted us 1600, then said they could do 1400. We said it was a lot and he asked what we wanted to pay so we told him 1100. He asked why that number? So we told him we’d shopped around and could get the same specs for that price. So he matched it… I’m sure he still made money, otherwise he wouldnt have done it, and I feel a lot better about about not feeling totally ripped off.

i found some 10k white gold plain wedding bands that i plan on investing in one to wear to work and i think they were about $70 but we are planning on shopping around since i dont wanna pay 300 some for a plain white gold band to wear to work…i may even invest in a berricle one or 4 just because of the nature of my job and all the things my hands are exposed too…with the wedding set i am looking at the band will be soldered to the e-ring and worn with great caution i think the band is about $350….i found some chepies on ebay too…

I would shop around. I got my half-eternity band (is that what they’re called? I’m having a brain fart) for $370- granted it was 50% off because the store was having a massive sale. I have seen plan gold bands for less than $300 each!

Mine was $2700 for a full eternity, 18k white gold, 2.6 mm, .7 ct. band. His was $900 for a 6mm 14k white gold band (plain).

I think the guy gave use the lowest price he could. My ring is the matching one for my engagement band and FI’s is just…..big! LOL!

I’m using a ring I already have for my wedding band to save money. I bought it about 5 years ago for $650. It’s a diamond half eternity band, 1/2 ct in 14k white gold. The store I bought it from is now charging $1295 for the same ring! Now I’m so glad I hung onto it!

We paid 899.00 for my ring and 499.00 for his (years ago mind you)
14k WG for mine 3/4 eternity .75tcw

My wedding ring is a .23ct VS diamond floral platinum band which cost us $350 (super steal, I bought it from DB but I knew the person who owned it and she only wore it a couple times).
BF’s wedding ring (FI soon hopefully, he still needs to propose! we got the wedding bands early because we got a good deal) is 5mm white tungten carbide beveled edge band for $90.
I think we did crazy good to have only spent $440 on both of our bands that are quite nice 🙂
I’m the bargain queen, and jewelry is my main hobby.
