I am currently looking for a hair and make up artist for my wedding day, and not really sure what to expect for pricing.
I’ve been getting quotes…… and for make up alone it sounds like a reasonable rate is about $100 for the bride, and anywhere from $65 to $80 per bridesmaid.
Hair seems to be about $140 for the bride, and about $70 – 80 for bridesmaids.
I’ve been considering hiring a sister of a friend of mine as our hair stylist for the day, and hiring a make up artist separately. But I’m a little hesitant in doing that.
What’s your experience, any recommendations? I’m getting married in Yonkers, NY.

It definitely varies by area. I’ve heard makeup can be up to $200 for the bride, and $100 per bridesmaid. Hair is about the same, depending on complexity. Those sound like good prices for the NY area. My opinion is that the money is worth it for a stylist you like! I originally booked a cheaper stylist and then hated my trial. I ended up with the more expensive one, but it was definitely worth it!

For hair – nada! Zilch. ZERO! $0! I dont plan to let anyone touch my hair because I want it wild and loose and free. Only tamed by a headband (maybe!).
My makeup artist is my fiancee’s friend so she is traveling with us to Rio de Janeiro. Her price is $150 for pre-trial and day of!

The makeup will be $350 for me and the two bridesmaids, including trial. No hair stylist. I don’t trust anyone to deal with my hair but me these days. Two many annoying experiences. My hair style will be simple anyway.

I own an on location hair and makeup company and I charge $95 for bridal makeup and $75 for bridesmaid makeup. Hair prices can range from $65-$115 depending on length and style. My price point is a little lower just because there’s SO much competition and I think sometimes it’s overpriced. I like to be affordable for all brides because I believe everyone should have the opportunity to feel like a princess on their special day and experience a professional makeup application and hairstyle. I’m located in the Phoenix area, but it definitely varies depending on your geographical location!

I’m budgeting little to nothing for hair and makeup. Though my sister’s roomie is an instructor at a cosmetology school, so I might ask her if she’s interested in doing my hair. If she is, I’ll just ask her what she’d like to be paid. But if I don’t go that route, I’ll probably just straighten it and call it good. Or if a really want to scandalize everyone, I’ll get a crewcut right before the big day, and go back to my 2008-2009 look. That would be awesome! I loved my high-and-tight! My partner probably wouldn’t be too thrilled, though…he likes my hair a bit longer, like at least chin length.
