    I paid 2800 before alterations for mine, and I loved it. It really was my dream dress.

    We paid $450 for each of our dresses.  With two brides and not a lot of money, we really had to keep the cost per dress down.

    My dad paid for my dress, it was a little over $5000 with alterations. He wanted me to get a dress that was $7000 before alterations so we compromised 🙂

    My budget was between $2-3K. I spent $1400 on the dress before alterations and spent about $300 on alterations.

    When I first got engaged I wanted to be cheap and by a nice dress under 500. Now, I’ve changed my thinking. I want to get the best dress for me as I know I would look back on photos  I would regret it if I just settled for a dress rather than getting what I really want. So, I’m aiming to be no higher than 2000.

    I paid $700 for the dress at David’s Bridal (maybe a bit more with tax?) and then $300 for alterations; it had to be taken in everywhere except the boobs, shortened, and the train removed. I’ve seen a lot of fancy dresses (on SYTTD, for example) but haven’t seen anything that I like better than mine 🙂

    While my fiance and I are paying for the wedding ourselves, my grandmother very kindly offered to buy my dress. She kept saying that I shouldn’t worry about the cost and should get what I wanted. I narrowed it down to 4 ($600, $1000, $1800, $2800) and had her and my aunt and step-mom over for brunch and then to go see the dresses. And I ended up with the most expensive one. She can afford it. And I love it. If I had been paying for it I would have gotten one of the cheaper ones.

    On the plus side – my alterations were only $60!!!

    @AirForceWife78: Great stories, very lucky.

    I paid £1225 for mine, which in $ is I think $1800. I adore my dress, but if I was to do it all again I’d definitely be looking at the pre-owned sites, purely because it’s a dress I’m only going to wear once.

    My wife and I budgeted $3000 for each of our gowns–we ended up spending under $1,000 WITH alterations total for both gowns.. Our gowns were not pre-owned or samples.

    I paid just over $800 for my dress, the most I would have paid would have been $1,500. I couldn’t imagine paying any more for something I am only going to wear for half a day.

    I paid $160 for my dress. My alterations will be free (done by my mom and a friend). My budget was $200. I didn’t want to pay too much so I searched in thrift stores and consignment shops. It was fun and I love my dress.
