Music at the reception is one of the most important parts of our wedding. We want to get this great bluegrass band that we’ve seen live several times but I’m hesitant about the price. They are in town and charging $1200 (6 guys in the band). Does this seem like a lot? Yes, they are currently on tour and they are really great but just wondering if we can do better for that small of a time slot…

I think it depends regionally. For us, our 11 piece band is 5,700$ and that’s pretty affordable for our area!

We’ve booked a really hot out-of-town (about 2 hours away) swing band – 1 vocalist & 5 people in the band. They’re $1000 for about an hour or $1500 for up to 4 hours. We’re in the midwest.

We’re paying $3,000 for our 5-piece band. I don’t think $1,200 is bad at all for a good band of that size.

What did you end up deciding? This just popped up in another thread I was just commenting on. $200/hour per person is about the minimum my band will do for a wedding. It’s usually more. There is a lot involved including set up, breakdown, learning songs you want them to learn, changing your schedule, buying nice clothes, etc. And of course years of studying your instrument! If you like them and it’s in your budget, I say go for it! How often do you get a band you love to play just for you!
