I don’t think that’s a bad price at all.  That second cake is a lot more invovled than the first one.  the first one is done with fondant cutters (cookie cutters) and is pretty easy to assemble.  Whereas the second one had to be drawn right on the cake.  It will take hours to do, plus it is bigger, so you have to factor that in as well.

ETA: I don’t think you could get a cake like the second one for less than double that price in my area (US)

That’s actually really cheap. The 2nd cake is definitely prettier;)

My cake was $600 and it fed 75 people so yea, I’d say your quote is pretty fantastic for that cake.

I know the pound is about 2x the value of the dollar. As a result, I am going to think of what you quoted like that. Even then, both prices seem like really, REALLY good prices!

As for the difference, personally, I love the second cake. I think that it is beautiful and romantic looking. The first I also like, but for different reasons. In the end, it is your choice and your budget. Is it worth spending 2.5 times the price for the second cake? Do you love it enough?

That’s pretty good. We paid $650 for a 3 tiered cake (we also had sheet cakes). We had 270 people at our wedding

we changed out design for the cake 5 times after we put a ten dollar deposit down… intial cost of cake was 600.. went all the way up to 1 grand… cake should feed 250 people…

@asianyoushi: Great design! I love that!

@fayrhiannon: I don’t think the price is bad at all, and the second cake is a beautiful design. We paid $650. for a 3 tier that fed 100, so I don’t think your price is out of line at all.

I think that price is very reasonable, and I LOVE the second cake you’ve chosen!! It’s very elegant!!  We paid more than $700 USD for our cake.  Here is a pic:

OP, I agree with you. The second cake is far more impressive and intricate. The first one just looks…….basic? Unoriginal? Uninspired? I am no great baker, so I am basing this on appearances alone. If you feel that the second cake is more “you” then you know what to do!
