Okay, so I’m torn. I found a DJ for $500 for 4 hours. But my Fiance and future Mother-In-Law both want a band. The cheapest band that Ive found so far that sound good are $1700.
Please tell me, how much is your band costing you.
Or am I passing up a great deal with this DJ?

I don’t have any advice about band pricing, but I am paying $695 for the dj and some lighting for 5.5 hours. I’m in Ohio, by the way; pricing sometimes differs by location (ie: a DJ in NYC is going to be more expensive than a DJ in a small midwest town). Hope This Helps.

My DJ is 1400. I didnt look into bands, but a coworker is paying 5k for her 6 or 8 piece band, and she said that was a good price.

i paid $600 for my DJ for 4 hours and he was freaking awesome – seriously i will recommend him to every bride in my city. i paid an extra $200 for uplights (not included in the 600)
IMO DJ’s are more fun than live bands, you get a mix of different music – usually good dancing music as opposed to the one type of music from a band, even if they do covers i doubt your gonna get a good beat going with a live band. Even though i think i would get up and dance no matter what a DJ is more exciting, guests can make requests, they usually have all the songs or can donwload right there from itunes. a band can be limited in the songs they know and play.
but like i said, this is my bias opinion.

We are getting a DJ and uplighting for about $1500 for 6 hours in DC.

I am in PA. We are paying $2600 for a band to play for 5 hours. The DJ I had previously looked into was $800 for the same amount of time. I wouldn’t necessarily assume it’s a good deal just because they are cheap. What if they suck? Have you heard them dj before? Or know anyone who has used them? I definitely wouldn’t just go by price. Good luck!

Our DJ is $1250. Definitely read reviews and try to go to an event that your DJ is DJing. Same goes for the band. Hearing them first is key.

We booked a five piece band for $1500. I’m hoping it will work out! We really wanted a band but most were pretty far out of our price range. I agree that you can’t just go by price, we did a lot of research to make our decision, checked many references, etc. I’m still nervous about picking a cheaper band, but they are managed by a DJ company…we’re going to see them next week, and I figure if we’re disappointed maybe we can switch our deposit to a DJ!

I personally prefer DJ’s over bands but thats just my opinion.
We’re paying $975 for 5 hours. To be honest, I feel like we’re paying far too much for our DJ but it is what it is.

Our DJ is about $2,000 for 5 hours including uplighting

Wow…ok sit down everyone. New Jersey here. The land where everything is more expensive. We’re paying $8,600 for our 10 piece band for our wedding. This includes two pieces during cocktails and two pieces for ceremony, one being a harp.

We paid $1800 for our DJ who came up to IN from Atlanta for our wedding. He is a friend of Darling Husband and I who runs his own DJ business and we’d seen him DJ more times than we could count and knew he was great!

We are paying 895 for 5 hours. I dont live in a big city tho.. so That could affect the price.

I’m about an hour from Los Angeles and our DJs (It’s 2 guys working together) will be $1100 for 5.5 hrs plus 2 hours of giving our mariachi band 15 min breaks. The mariachi will play for a total of 3 hrs for $1275, which I would categorize with a live band, just different style music.
