My wedding was out of town and for all I had $ 2,000
It was not enough, so I had to save money on something..
To cut my expenses I used some tips:
1. First of all, I cut the guest list.
2. We celebrated not in the restaurant.
3. I baked the cake myself with a friend.
Also try this resource Wedding Forward it’s online social wedding community with huge number of tips.
One of my best friends got married in Southeast Asia. The flights, time off, etc. added up to about $5000. I went..no complaints and had an amazing time. I would go anywhere for a close friend of family member.
About 3k to a family wedding. Flights. Hotel spending gift etc. They divorced within the year.
We just attended a destination wedding (still in the US and not a super high cost area) and these were the approximate costs. I definitely shopped around for pricing too:
$600 plane tickets
$200 rental car
~$100 food (there were several wedding events that included food thankfully)
Plus using 3 days of vacation time for both of us.
I am attending an Out of Town wedding this weekend for a good friend. We’re driving, and it’s about 4 hours there – so whatever that will be for gas. We have 2 nights booked (Friday and Saturday) under their hotel block, which I am guessing will be well over $200 for. Then, just spending money for drinks at the reception and food for various meals.
All in all, I bet we’ll be close to over $500 when it comes down to it – which seems minimal than what some of you have/will have paid. I don’t mind though – it should be a fun weekend, and our first wedding as a married couple!
Fiance and I will be spending on avg ~1600 to attend each of the 5 OOS weddings this year. FI is in 3, so we have not much choice about those 😉
Plus our own affair in October. It’s an expensive year for us.
I am so glad you posted this! It can be daunting to look at the costs associated with attending weddings and forgetting that its about getting to be part of a moment!
Fiance and I spent $1000+ getting to a wedding earlier this year and we have several more to attend this year. We had to turn down two weddings already this year because they were not financially feasible for us. I was sad seeing photos and not getting to wish both couples well.
I’m not sure how to say this nicely but having to travel for others’ weddings was a huge factor in our decision to tie the knot in the city we live. Many of our friends and many family members will have a short car trip ahead of them. Less than 20 people will have more than a 2hr flight ahead of them if they attend. I want as many of my loved ones to attend and I feel terrible asking for them all to pay a lot to do that. I know that’s not always possible to cut down on travel time and expense for all weddings.
Can your next thread be how to travel the world and never have to spend money?! 😉 A girl can dream!?
