I have just started researching officiants and am a bit horrified at how much they cost…We will be having a nonreligious ceremony so I know that does require a bit more work for the officiant in terms of constructing the ceremony, but I have received quotes from $400-$700, which just seems like an awful lot for a simple 20ish-minute ceremony. How much are you spending on your officiant?

Our pastor we are using moved out of state. We are paying for his round trip plane ticket (from WA to TX and back) and 2 nights in a hotel. We are also going to let him drive my Fiance truck while he is here.

Ours is $350. He’s a pastor at a local church (but the ceremony will be mostly secular…). The fee goes to him, not the church.

Around $550 is the standard where I live. I got 20% friend discount though which helped Bring it down to $440.

We paid a $200 flat fee. Very reasonable priced and she did a great job. Our ceremony was only 10 minutes. We were pretty happy with that price.

$0. A friend is acting as our officiant and is ordained.

cbj9: We’re doing a non-religious ceremony as well, and the ones I contacted in my area charged $550 for the ceremony and $150 for rehearsal, so I was just as horrified as you. I mean, I get that they’re customizing a ceremony and their role on the wedding day is a pretty important one, but it’s still a hard pill to swallow.
We’re having a friend, who is a great public speaker, officiate our wedding instead. He’s going to get ordained online and I have to call our county’s circuit court to make sure everything is legit too. We’ll most likely pay for his hotel room while he’s here, so probably around $200.

cbj9: Our officiant is a friend who is also a rabbi- we are paying for his flight and hotel for the wedding, but that’s unique situation. So it will probably total around $700 based on how far he has to fly.
My dad is actually a civil ceremony officiant and, granted it depends on the officiant, but he pours his heart and soul into the work he does. You might be surprised by how much time gets spend planning. If it’s going to cost so much, it will help you be selective about working with someone you really love too!
vip0802: Sounds like a really great way to go!

I had to look it up. It is $350. I don’t know if we will be rehearsing. There were more expensive than that. We are getting married at a hotel… It is somewhat religious.

Ours was included in our wedding package that the venue offered.

Ours was about $200 as well.

We are having a Pastor that we know do it and we are paying him $200. He is also doing our pre-marital counseling and he is giving that to us for free as a part of his gift.

Ours was $250, and an additional $100 to attend the rehearsal.

I’m actually in the process of looking for an officiant now, but it’s looking to be about $250 which is the normal around my area.
