I’m probably spending $500-600 this year. I typically don’t spend tons of $$.
Parents – $100
DH- $100. Would have been more but I got a pretty good deal.
No presents for siblings, there are just too many between us and none of us typically give the others much. Last year I got them some soaps/lotions and lots of baked goods.
No nieces/nephews yet
No kids yet
I’ve got like 30+ cousins and 10 aunts/uncles (not including their spouses) so obviously we’re not buying any of them gifts (standard practice). But I could understand if you only have a few or are close to a particular one.
Stockings for us- $50
Baking stuff to give out -$50
3 of my friends – $120 combined
I let DH handle his parents but last year I just gave them the same things I game his brothers, lots of baked goods and some lotions/soaps for the kitchen.
$30 for grandma
$10 work party gift
I’d consider spending more on DH if there was something in particular he wanted. This year he wanted running shoes and clothes. I just got some great black friday deals.
One year my Dad asked for a bottle of whiskey.

This year, DH and I have decided not to buy for each other. Instead we will put a bit of money into an account to save for a trip sometime in the next few months. We have a baby on the way so need to save every penny! Otherwise, we need to spend on the following people:
my parents (75 each)
his parents (75 each)
my two siblings (75 each)
his two siblings (75 each)
my grandparents (3) (25 each)
and then we do a secret santa on his side of the family so we will each have a gift to buy for that.
I used to buy for friends… but don’t do that anymore!
We will probably spend between about 700.. although hoping for some deals so that it will come out as less.

Oh, thanks for the answer ! I didn’t know about the coconut kind (this looks delicious). But no, I thought I could simply translate from the French ”Macaron” by adding a ”o” and I saw French Macaroons in Google when I typed it, so I assumed it was the right word. Now you make me want to do both kinds, lol !

@SincerelyShe: Too much; around $600.
Was supposed to be cutting back, and I only have like 5 people to buy for :-s
OH: around $160; ticket to see a comedian, plus probably an item of clothing
Dad: $160; opera ticket
Mum: $160; purse, painting, and socks
Brother: $80 Amazon gift card
Best friend: $18; 70cl bottle of Jack Daniels
Then we’re also getting OH’s grandmother something for a joint birthday/Xmas present which will be another $20 each or so.

Oh there are all different kinds too. Like some chocolatey coconut ones and peppermint ones. 😛

I looooooove Christmas shopping – I have everything purchased and wrapped. I like buying stuff for others more than myself! We spend around $3k each year.
Siblings (5) and siblings spouses (3) – $100-125 pp
Secret Santa for extended family (1 person for each me and SO) – $100 pp
Parents – we usually spend around $800-1000 on each set of parents. Usually this is in the form of a practical gift plus a large donation to a charity of their choice (per our parents request – they dont want any more stuff haha)
We don’t give each other anything; instead, we volunteer to set up and cook for our church’s Christmas dinner for the underserved/poor in the community and choose 2 children from the giving tree (which I didn’t count, but its usually another $50 per child).
I don’t mind spending so much money, especially knowing that 2/3 of the budget is going toward charity. Plus we can write that off on taxes =)

As long as you’re not going into debt, spend what you feel comfortable with.
We have a diverse group of people who make all different amounts and live in all different areas so these kind of questions always seem strange, just like what do you weigh when not taking into account height, this is what are you spending on gifts without taking into account the person’s salary.

Goodness gracious that seems like a lot to spend!
I typically don’t keep track of what we spend, but this year I added a christmas list app to my phone to keep track of what I wanted to buy for each person and the cost. I’m just about done shopping and have spent around $600. DH and are are just getting eachother small gifts, as we kind of spend money on ourselves enough as it is.
My list had:
Small gifts for me/DH, Mom, Mom’s hubby, Dad, brother, half-sister, half-sister’s mom, Mother-In-Law, Father-In-Law, Brother-In-Law, our daughter, babysitter & her 2 kids, our employees (2), and our dog (so 17 people)

- Wedding: August 2013 - An amazing non-profit retreat
I typically spend $200- $250.00. We don’t buy gifts for many people, just his mom, brother, and each other. No one in my family is really doing the gift-giving thing anymore because we simply don’t need anything.

Just only doing presents for immediate family which is my parents, 2 brothers and sister. But I don’t have to buy my dad present till Feb since he will be out of the country till then. But I also do presents at work and we do a big gift for less than $20 at work too.

When I voted I did’nt actually count what I already bought… the $500 is for what we will spend once dh gets his bonus. So far I spent:
$54 for Wooody
$21 for Barbie tablet (40% off)
$8 Ken Doll
That is what I have so far for my dd and 5yr old
I also spent $10 or so for the electronic book for baby plus a mini guess who game. I spent $2 on baby’s bath book (clearance) and bath toy and $4 on Fisher Price Trio on sale. And $3 for FP monkey rattle teether for baby. That is what I spent so far.

@SincerelyShe: i usually buy for my Fiance, mom, dad, brother, Future Sister-In-Law, Future Mother-In-Law, Future Father-In-Law, 4 nieces, and employees, but my Fiance and I just bought a house about 2 months ago so most of our money went to that. So I’m only buying gifts for my Fiance and employees. I’ll probably spend $200 on my Fiance and under $100 for all my employees. I love Xmas shopping for my family, but for sure next year I will. I’ll have to start saving early enough.
