I knew from the beginning that I would ask my bridesmaids to wear a little black cocktail dressof their choosing. One less decision for me, and they were all thrilled. They wore black shoes, also their choice (I said no flip flops or sneakers, but anything else was fair game). They were all comfortable and I had several people tell me that they really liked the look.
While I understand some brides want a more cohesive look, it is up to us to find out each individual’s budget and adhere to the lowest number. THEN look at dresses. It’s not fair to say you’re in love with a dress that’s twice someone’s budget, and put the onus on her to have to say she can’t afford it.

I fell in love with dresses that were the same but had different tops. And I wanted a hard color to find- silver. SO I ended up with the most expensive bridesmaid dresses in the history of the world. They were $321 each. Good thing I only had 4 bridesmaids.
The company I went with- Lula Kate- had great customer service. I ordered the dresses directly from them.

My bridesmaids bought their dresses from Macy’s. The most wonderful thing about that is that they don’t need any alterations. They were:
My Maid/Matron of Honor is special. I bought her dress (she’s my younger sister). It’s a GORGEOUS Dessy, and cost $285. Unfortunately, she’s smaller than a size 00 (feel free to commence hating her…NOW), so there will be alterations needed.

I let my girls choose their own dresses. My only requirements were the color, style, and aproximate length. They both bought dresses at H&M and JcPennys for around $30.
As a bridesmaid I spend about $100 on a dress. i wasn’t a fan of the dress and didn’t bother spending money to get it altered.
Have you thought about finding a style you like and buying them online?

I went shopping with my bridesmaids and I was torn between a $180 Bill Levkoff dress and a $300 Jenny Yoo dress (both were long black silk dresses), so I left it to them. They decided for the more expensive Jenny Yoo dress. It was a far super fabric, and they felt they’d rather spend the money on a higher quality dress. In the end I felt guilty, so I paid for half of their dresses. One of my bridesmaids had a $150 dress budget, and me chipping in helped her meet that.

I’m a fellow Canadian and also found that the prices were crazy high! I have been in a few weddings and the dresses ranged from $150-$225. I happened upon the dresses for my girls at Jacob for $75, but were are not having a very formal wedding. It’s worth a peak at their website from time to time though! http://www.jacob.ca/clothing/dresses?limit=all&mode=newgrid
I agree with @sweetchiquita12: David’s Bridal might be your best bet for decently priced “bridesmaids dresses”. Keep in mind that as soon as anything is labelled “wedding” the price doubles so you will find better prices if you can choose a non-bridesmaids dress that suits your vision. Good luck!
