@NAvery:  I’d get the extra cake but I wouldn’t want to mess with the take-home boxes.

You can totally use the extra cake for the next day….are you doing a gift opening the next day?

I make cakes for Weddings a lot.

Are you serving other desserts, or is the cake your only dessert? How is it being served, are you   Serving it to people immediately following dinner, or is being set out later at night and people can take a peice if they want it?

I went to a wedding where they didnt order extra and they ran out of cake. I was a bridesmaid and didnt even get to have a slice. If cost isnt a big factor, I would order more just to be safe unless you have a server handing them out to each table/person so people dont get seconds/thirds. We are ordering the exact number of slices for our wedding, but we will have a server hand them out and we have other desserts too!

If cake is your only dessert, I’d opt for the extra cake. Maybe not a half sheet, but maybe a quarter sheet. It’ll add about 20 more servings. Not everyone is going to have cake, but the serving size for weddings is very small, so some people (not many I’m sure) will have seconds.
