I paid $750 for mine. Included with her is

    • 2 photoraphers (her and a 2nd shooter)
    • A CD with full rights so we can print all the pictures she took (they’ll all be edited already)
    • Engagement picture session & CD we can print from -all edited
    • She was with us from 1 in the afternoon to 10pm.
    • Plus she’s so freaking adorable.

Wedding (haven’t got the rest back but i’m so excited):

@violet25:  I think a lot of it has to do with their demand. There is one very popular well know photographer in our area that is $6-8k I think (MUCH more than others here) but they are amazing. They have a good eye for what they are doing, catch little moments, and unique poses that always make the couple look amazing….so they are in high demand and can get away with charging that. I feel like some raise prices each year or because they see others are. Our photographer is pretty popular and books up fast, but very reasonably priced.

It comes down to demand, ability, and experience. You get what you pay for.

@photogestelle:  I 2nd that. A good photographer can make all the difference, and a great editor is even better. MORE IMPORTANTLY a bad/inexperienced photgrapher will make an even bigger difference…

Sorry for all the pics… but we paid 2k and I think she is worth every penny.

That said- a lot of it comes down to preference.

I like the vintage, antique looking photos. Some people like angled photography or very vibrant and colorful, highly saturated photos. It was our single biggest purchase for the wedding and so far I am very happy we went with who we did

Higher end photographers became that way for a reason. Even if you are photogenic a not-so-great photographer isn’t going to have the experience to know how to pose you well, or have the best equipment and know how to use it. That said, I know quite a few not that great photographers who are in the price bracket and they are just really great at marketing. I also know some really really amazing photographers who are not charging what they are worth. It really needs to be looked at case by case and not necessarily by the price. An amazing photog will nail the shot in the camera and not have to rely on photoshop actions to make the image “creative”. An amazing photog is going to make a 10k wedding look like a million bucks and an average photographer can make a 100k wedding look average.

The best way to determine if the photographer is worth it. Look at an entire wedding from that photog. {at least 50 images} Do most of the images blow your mind? Is it the style you like and you can see yourself in the images? Does the photographer feel like it’s someone you trust to capture the day the way you want it?

i have been STRESSING major about this actually. i had a photographer in mind, and she was in the UK and i am based in Australia, so it was going to cost over $5000 AUD to bring her over here and take our photos. now this might sound crazy but she is an amazing photographer….

then my cousins wife, who is also a wedding photographer and a really good one (but more traditional than the UK one) offered to shoot our wedding as a gift.. so we are going with her.

i still worry sometimes, even though she is a great photographer that our photos will end up crappy, even though deep down i know they wont.

i guess my point is, the UK based one has been on wedding blogs, and is really “out there” and popular in wedding land, and is amazing, and my local photographer, who is awesome too and has been in a couple of wedding blogs, is more traditional and great… but only time will tell with how our photos turn out.

i think getting someone you are comfy with and can openly say “this is what we want” should work out…. well, as long as they are open and professional!
