I’m about a 2/4 street size. There’s a store having a 50% off “sample dress” sale next week, but when I was trying on dresses there, the lady mentioned that the smallest they get samples in is size 8, usually bigger.
If I go to the sale, do you think the dresses will be able to be adequately sized down?
I know it depends on the style too, I like mermaid style dreses with kind of a wrap-look. I’m not sure how much they can alter the size on that style dress.
Examples of what I like:

I think a seamstress can probably take a dress down 1-2 sizes. Don’t forget that the sizing on the dresses is probably different, I’m a 4/6 but got a 10 dress.

I bought a sample – size 8 – and I wear street size 4 in dresses. My seamstress isn’t having any problem with it. The sales ladies will be able to guide you to dresses with details that won’t be ruined by taking in the dress.
Just remember that wedding dress “8s” are a lot smaller than a department store 8.

general rule is for the average dress, a good seamstress can alter to 2 sizes down or one size up at most. like Miss AsB said, you’ll probably end up 1-2 sizes bigger in bridal, you’d probably be ok with an 8 or 10.

my dress is a 10 and i got it taken down to a street size 4, but the dress i was going to get was a 14, and the seamstress said she could take it down to a 4, it would just cost extra money. if you want it, they can make it happen if you’re willing to pay the price!
if your dress does not have lots of beading on the side seams (for example, a dress that mostly has beading on the neckline) it would be easier to size down several sizes.

I am a street size 4 and my wedding dress is an 8 and fits me like a glove! I don’t think you would have to take in the dress more than a size and that can easily be done.

I bought a size 10 dress and it was taken in to fit my street size 2 frame with no problems. I’m sure you’ll be ok with a sample-sized dress.

Usually they can be taken in three sizes, but like the others said, my dress is a ten and I wear a six.

i am a street size 4 and i also wear a wedding size 4.
regarding taken in a dress, i was told by a very experienced bridal shop sales lady that she wouldn’t suggest buying dresses that are 2 sizes larger with the intention of taken in the dress, cuz taken in anything larger than 2 sizes will change the structure of the dress and, thus, become very expensive.

I was told by the place I bought my dress that the most they could go down is 3 dress sizes. I dont know if it depends on the dress of the seamstress or what.
