We are going to Riviera Maya for 7 days/nights and have already prepaid for two excursions that we would like to do. How much cash do you think we need? I’ve heard to bring small bills because some people will say they don’t have change.

Less than $300 — especially if your hotel is all inclusive

yes for small bills, you want to be able to tip or buy a drink at the airport/at the markets etc
i usually carry about $2K on us – hubby HATES it but ive never had a problem and we always spend it

@BluegrassBridetoBee: Where are you going to? We are going to Secrets Maroma Beach in August and people on the Facebook page recommended enough for tipping (it is included, but if you want to tip for oustanding service, you have the money) and if you plan to go into town for shopping. Like you, our excursions are already paid for.

Definitely bring small bills and some cash if you plan on going out. Any big things (excursions, car rental) I would just pay for with CC

We started out with $500 but hit up the ATM a few times throughout the trip. We took a cruise so while we were at sea, cash was useless. All spending money was mostly used when we were in Bermuda.
ETA: And I agree with the small bills. If I remember correctly, we brought 1-$100 bill and everything else was a $20 or smaller.

@LRCWedding: We are going to Valentin Imperial Maya. It is all inclusive. So, I’m sure we’ll need money for tips as well as anything we do when we leave the resort.
What all did you guys spend money on other than tops and meals outside of the resort? Do most places take credit card? I’m so confused 🙂
Thanks girls!

honestly we brought $50 to our all inclusive resort in Jamaica, and didn’t even end up using it. Tips are technically part of the all inclusive, and there was no cash anywhere in site the whole trip. It would have been awkward to try to tip.
At the airport on the otherhand, we spent $21 at wendys on one combo and one sandwich…

We also took along $500, but stopped by the ATM a few times as well as used our debit cards throughout the trip. If your honeymoon is all inclusive, I would bring less money (small bills like you stated).

We took $500, which was my idea (DH wanted to take less), and ended up coming home with over $250 of that left. Definitely take small bills for tips – even though it’s an all inclusive, I think it’s pretty much the norm to tip the maids/bellhops/etc. We also tipped the waiters at the A la Cartes. The rest went to souvenirs – we definitely spent more then usual on them this time, because it was our honeymoon, after all!

I would bring your atm and credit card. Visa is accepted everywhere! Don’t ever carry more than $100 cash on you.

At least $700-$1,000 depending on where you’re going. But lock it up in a safe when you get there.

$100 or $200 maybe? We typically dont carry much cash and charge everything, even on vacations.

@BluegrassBridetoBee: Aww that was our second choice!! It looks beautiful and definitely highly reccommended! Yea since it’s an all inclusive you shouldn’t need more than 150-200 at most. Unless you don’t want to use your credit cards. But check the exchange rates on your cards before you leave.

Make sure you use your credit card on vacations because debit cards are REALLY easy to hack into nowadays. Have fun! Congrats!!
