Obcoolio:  I’m not sure exactly what my Fiance spent but I did see the appraisal was a little over $25k, nearly $6k was the Tacori setting and my center stone is a 1.57 round diamond. This was after he upgraded my stone from 1.1 carat. My advise would be to get a setting you love as you can always upgrade the center stone later. We never had the budget discussion or even look at rings before he made the purchase.

He spent what he was comfortable spending at the time. I offered to contribute since I wanted a stone that was at least 7 mm across. He declined my offer and got me a slightly larger stone. Everybody’s finances are different. The amount he spent would be astronomical to some and insignificant to others. We made a few sacrifices (together) so he could save for it, but had we wanted to wait a couple more months to be engaged that would not have been the case.

My fiancé spent around 6k for my ring. Maybe buy a ring in that budget and then upgrade down the line. Or if you want to (which I don’t suggest) Get one of those store cards and make monthly payments on the ring you want

Obcoolio :

Our rings were custom made:

My e-ring is 0.96 ct moissanite oval centre stone, with 0.36 ct diamond halo and accents set in 18k yellow gold.

My wedding band has 0.15 ct diamonds also 18k yellow gold.

His wedding band is 18k yellow gold comfort fit.

Total cost was $5,878 AUD

But we got 20% discount so paid $4700~

My engagement ring was originally $3520.00 without 20% off.

Cheap! $230 BEFORE discounts.  Hah.  We are on a very tight budget but I still wanted a ring that was what I wanted.  I got a 10k rose gold three-stone ring with accent stones on the band.  All the stones are white sapphires, with the center one being the equivalent of .5 carat in size. I love it! My band is 1/10 carat diamond channel set, also 10k rose gold.  It was about the same price, maybe $20-30 more.  We got all of our rings from Zales for $500 together after we applied discounts.

My set was a little over 6k I think. 2ctw. But I think you can get something that will work your price point if you look at sims.

Sorry you lost your sparkles. Good luck!

Go online and check out GIA standards to know what you’re lookng for, as suggested by the bees above.  I picked out a stone locally and it was nearly 21K and got the same specs at Blue Nile GIA for 15K and then had it custom set, that was a pretty penny so total of 18K spent.  But my point is you can save and get so much more if you shop around.

I think he spent too much on me and I tell him all the time! After bothering him so much about feeling guilty for how much he must have spent he says, “I only spent 2500!” I’m like what??? Is that supposed to sound inexpensive??? I would have been happy with no ring at all but I’ve grown quite fond of it now. 🙂

My fiancé paid 19k for my ring. He went with the higher qualities that people usually can’t tell. Someone once asked if my ring was 8k 😰.
