I let them pick their own. One spent about $100 and the other $20.

I think a lot of this depends on how much the dresses are, what other costs you expect them to incur to be in the wedding, and to some extent financial status.  I didn’t require that the BMs get any particular shoes.  I didn’t even know people did this until I came on the WB.

Personally, if I spent over $100 on a dress, I’d be a little annoyed if I had to spend more than $50 on shoes… especially if I wouldn’t wear them again.

I agree, let them pick their own (pick the colour and general style if you want).  Everyone has different feet and what works for one might not work for another.  For my sister’s wedding, I spent about $100 on shoes.  I have foot problems and was dealing with some nerve issues as well.  The other BMs spent $40 or less.  I tried cheaper shoes, but they all hurt way too much.  The other girls also went with 3-4″ heels.  I wore heels but there was no way I could have managed with anything that high.

I’m letting them pick their own shoes, so they’re free to spend however much they want!

The last wedding I was in, the bride lets us choose our own shoes as well. I actually already had a really nice pair that matched our dresses. I got approval from the bride and ended up spending $0 on shoes for that wedding. Score!

All of my BMs have cream patent leather pumps so I told them they should just all wear those and save money but they said no, they want to wear the same shoes so I told them to do whatever they want then.. I have no idea what they’re going to buy. I don’t care enough to dictate their shoes, they are adults and can make a decision like that themselves

Honestly, I think its a terrible idea to make them all buy the same shoes. Everyone’s feet are different, and shoes that are comfortable for me/ fit my arches, width, etc. are not necessarily going to fit my BFFs. They’re super supportive of you and I’m sure they’re thrilled to celebrate, so why give them a color and let them choose what works for them?

My sister told all of us to just buy a pair of white shoes in any style because a few BMs can’t wear heels and so we can be a little unique.  Some people are wearing ones they already have, I spent about $58 on mine.

I tried to get them to just wear their own shoes, and every single one of them objected. Then I tried to get them to wear $10 flats. And 3/4 bms objected because they looked cheap. So…yeah. I picked out the only gold heels that matched the dress, and they were $40. I still have horrible guilt over it.

They can pick their own, as long as they aren’t flip flops.

@jo.lee: This is what I’m scared of. Originally, I told them to pick their own dress (with certain specifications) and they freaked out. I’m hoping to just bring shoes up at the last minute and tell them to wear whatever they want. lol

I gave them their shoes as their bridal shower hosting gift 🙂 They both wanted to wear a ballet flat. I bought them a gold flat for $25 at target 🙂
