I guess I am not the best point of reference – b/c wedding pictures arent the biggest things for me although I did want to have a professional photographer. My parents are gifting us the photographer which I found on Craiglist for $75 an hour. I was looking everywhere & didnt get anything under $1000. I wanted something modern & candid as well – http://www.minervaphotography.com is what I found & I cant wait to sign the contract & for the big day.
$75/hour x 4 hours = $300, budgeted $350 for prints. We get a CD with all pictures & rights & 150 shots per hour.
I think its a great deal & it will work out fine. We just dont have the budget or dsire to pay $2K plus for photos – I prefer it go to everything else 🙂

Am I getting screwed? I read through the other posts and am feeling like I am getting nothing. I’m paying $2500 for 2 photographers for 4 hours, a CD of 180 images and I can look at them online.

we’ve earmarked 20% of our total budget for photography. Our budget isn’t a lot (10K), but we’re finding we can get beautiful photos, 8-10hrs with 2 photogs, reprinting rights, all the photos on high res disc, free engagement shoot and print credit from a number of photographers in our area within our budget. For us, we started with the amount and then we’re trying to find the best photographer our limited funds can get us.

- one shooter
- 6 hours on the wedding day
- disc with edited images
- online access to wedding pics (guests can order prints if they want)
- engagement session
I’m in the north east in a higher cost of living area.

So glad to see other brides posting here…photography is MAJOR for me as it’s our only memories of the day that will exist tangibly after, so I looked high and low in the “plantinum” range even if the rest of my wedding definitely ISN’T! 🙂
Ended up with:
10 hrs of coverage
Box full of all the prints that are fit to keep
DVD w/high res images
Online slideshow w/music
2 hrs of bridal shoot day after
which I find very reasonable from a photographer that’s been published high and low and whose images I swoon over. Can’t wait!
Also splurging on videography…I know, I know…

– 6 hours
– 2 shooters
– All photos on a disc with printing rights
We consider this a big splurge. I know photos are one of the things that last forever, but we also want to be taking photos of a nice wedding rather than spending $5K+ for amazing photos of a less-than-amazing event.

For 6 hours, unlimited images on CD (retouched)

something like $100 print credit

I will sound really dumb, but is the engagement shoot usually in all wedding packages for photography? or does it depend on photographer and price

The cost of your photographer is going to depend greatly on where you live the economy and how talented they are.
