For your dress. I know its very personal, but I’m seeing all these dresses and its nothing for them to go over a grand and more… I just don’t have that kind of cash. But I don’t want to look cheap. My mom really wants to buy my dress for me (its really important to her) and her budget is probably $400 at most. Fiance and I agreed if I really really just had to have a specific one, we could add up to another $150 or so… Is it unrealistic to think I’ll be able to find my “dream dress” for $550 or less? Ugh… this is so depressing….

@canyangfeixue: Have you tried looking for dresses on the used websites? (Recycledbride.com, preownedweddingdresses.com, the classifieds here at weddingbee) Often times brides will sell their wedding gowns, worn once, in great condition, for half the price of a new one.
Personally, I spent way more than I ever thought I would on a wedding gown (and it’s really just a moderately priced gown). I would have bought it used if I found one available.

$432 – dress
$10 – Grament Bag
$20 – shipping
$360 – alterations
I think you really have to take in considerations about alterations when you get a dress. Paying more for one that already fits is prob worth it.

My dress was $932 including tax but excluding alterations (which I have no idea what those will cost yet). I would suggest buying online. A dress for less than $800 in a bridal boutique will be very hard to find. Good luck!

I’m having mine made by a dressmaker and it’s costing me £1500 (c.$2450) but it’s an underwear corset, bodice, full length ballgown skirt with cathedral train and crinoline and 1950s swing skirt with full net petticoats plus a small tricorne hat with birdcage veil (all in silk dupion)
The veil I want for during the day is another £470 (c.$765).
I do have a second (embroidered silk chiffon) dress for a vow renewal on the beach in Thailand that I paid a grand total £16.50 for including P&P (c.$27). It was an eBay purchase and I absolutely love it. It wouldn’t be appropriate for our big castle wedding in the UK but it’s ideal for our chilled out beach nuptials.

My dress actually was exactly $550 on sale (normaly $600) but with a veil, sash, and taxes it came to $682 for the lot. And goodness knows how much alterations will cost /:

Keep a look for sample sales as well.
My dress was 1550, but I got negotiated $150 off my alterations and they were already not alot, so they will come out to about 100-150 (that includes the purchase of my crinoline).

My dress was regular price only about $800.00. I asked to buy it off the rack (as it fit, and I was going to be out of country for the entire lead-up to my wedding so … no time for fittings!). She took a generous 40% off, so with taxes it came to less than $450.00 CDN. All I needed done was the hemming, which came to $70.
Post-wedding we had it repaired (did some serious damage on the wedding day!), the crinoline taken out, and cropped to tea length. All of that only came to $40 – and I have a brand new wedding dress to wear for my out of country reception.
I have total faith that you can get a dream dress for under $600! I would seriously check out Mori Lee – they seem to have some of the most beautiful dresses for a really reasonable price. Mine was a Mori Lee 4524 🙂

@totheislnds: ahaha too funny! It was such a dream to wear and I cannot wait to see it now the alterations are finished! Which dress did you end up going with?

My dress was about $1,500, but you can definitely find gorgeous dresses for around $500. David’s Bridal is a great place to start, and you can also look at salons that do sample sales and ones that carry Mori Lee and PC Mary’s. Good luck!
