Also, I dont think it has anything to do with the cost of the dress. My dress cost $2,500 but if it had been $500 I still think they would have charged me $450 worth of alterations.

I was given the name of a lady who does wedding dress alterations/other seamstress work out of her home about 10 minutes from me, and I’ve already spoken to her, and she said most brides walk out with dresss finished at ballpark $100. I’d ask around and see if you can find someone who does it for a living. She’s been doing wedding dress alterations for 20 years out of her home.  My dress was $1800.

Dress was $250… alterations are $250. Lol. To be fair, I removed the train, took out a layer of the skirt, had a sash added (sewn on), and made it ankle-length, so that’s a lot. And they also made me a jacket out of the extra material!

I paid $1100. I knew I overpaid, by a lot, but I was running out of time.

My sample dress was 50% off. I paid $750 plus tax. Alterations were $650ish? I probably could have found a cheaper place, but I was on a deadline and I needed it taken from a size 12 down to a 6/8.

I think it depends a lot on the material of the dress. I had a ball gown type of dress with lots of tulle at the bottom. I had the spaghetti straps shortened, bustle added, hem, etc and it was right around $100.00.

I have yet to go in for alterations but I was told to expect it to be up to about $600. I’m doing them directly w the boutique I got it from. I spent $3k on my dress so I couldn’t imagine trying to find someone to alter it for a lot less and possibly ruin it.

its my dream dress and i wanna keep it that way.

Dress cost $150, alterations $350.  A lot of the alteration costs were her having to make the arm holes bigger (I’m fairly thin; those arm holes must have been for someone VERY petite).

My dress was $100 and alterations were $60. I’m having my zipper back converted to a corset.

My grandmother is doing my alterations for free. I got a corset back so all I need is a bustle (and shoes with a slight heel because I’m 5’2″ lol. I would LIKE to have the neckline modified into a Sweetheart (it’s such a close scoop that it almost is one already and would be a continuation of lines that are already there) but my grandmother and mother and aunt all don’t want that… So I guess that’s the price I’m paying haha. Still I half feel like I could do that myself… And I don’t exactly sew.

As for general alterations, I just tried on like 200-300 dresses and found what brands fit me best off the rack (again – cannot stress the corset back enough!) and then just chose my favourite dress by that designer and had it ordered in and my favourite store of the ones who carried that designer.

I need to get alterations done myself and I’m afraid what will cost me for the alterations. Hopefully not much…I went to simply bridal and found this gorgeous dress and they said they’d make the alterations for FREE!! However, it wasn’t the “yes” dress so I kept looking.

Went to Davids bridal, found my dress there. Gorgeous! It was originally an $1800 dress but it was on sale for $850. Bought it on the spot. In scared for the alterations because all I need is tighten my bust area (size small 😕), and shorten my dress since I’m short 5’2. Not much I hope???

I hope it won’t be no no more than $$250-300. I’ll be so happy if its even $100! I’m going to be praying hard haha
