I have my alterations appointment tomorrow and I am curious to see what bees out there have paid. I understand it is very dependent on what you have done/where you go. I am just interested to see what the average is so that when I go I can get an idea if the quote is right on or if they are playing me!

For the same amount of work – dress taken in, cups added, hemmed, and bustled I went to two independant seamstresses, both great reviews, and got quotes of $350 and $130… I went with the $130 =)

I only had to have my straps shortened, so $30. But… I didn’t buy a real wedding dress, ordered a limited edition dress from one of my favorite stores that comes in normal sizes. But she still had to deal with beads and sequins.

My quote is somewhere around 200 for a bunch of random things.

I had alterations done, but the salon where I purchased them from includes it in the cost of the dress… The salon owner is the woman who does their alterations. Sweet deal!

I recently had my first fitting and my tailor suggested having the sides taken in, cups and wire around the bust put in, bottom hemmed up, bustle put in. I have a TON of beading in all of those areas meaning she would have to take off the beading and rebead individually. My total so far is $490 :X Luckily, I got my dress at the Running of the Brides and paid just a little over that for the actual dress! Craziness, but I could see a complete difference in what a little nip and tuck here and there by a professional can do for a dress!!! 🙂 Good luck!

I think alterations can make a huge difference!!

Mine was quoted at $80 (only for adding cups and a bustle), but she messed up so she only charged us $50.

Sides taken in, sweetheart deepened, skirt more mermaid-fitted, very simple bustle, and she hemmed it for no charge…. total overall came to $230.

$25… getting it back monday… so excited!! I was freakishly lucky in that my dress fit perfect from the start, like it was made just for me and my exact body shape. The only alteration I need is a bustle. 🙂

I was kind of annoyed with mine because I think the price was high but I was standing there.. in my dress and didn’t feel like going through all that and finding another seamstress.
Take in bust & add cups
Take in hips
Cut tulle layer under train to floor length
Add bustle (3 points, 7 loops)
I would have expected that if they were hemming it too but jeez..

Complicated lace hem
Spot cleaning between bridals/wedding

Mine are $200. I need a hem and a bustle. The hem is kind of expensive because my dress apparently is really complicated. That’s ok though. It beats the $500 that Pronovias was going to charge me!
